fx5900 problems

I can't get my card to run on any drivers newer than 45.23. I've tried using DriverCleaner. Does anyone have any advice or similar problems?

which leads me to wonder.. of those claiming "doa" 5900's, what's the chances they hosed it by flashing their bios and are afraid to admit it? hmmm....

or even a worse conspriacy theory.. they are receiving rma's from places like gameve where the cards were already flashed, broken, and returned for rma.. then being sold as "retail" to unwitting buyers. i mean, i haven't heard anyone who's bought one from say, newegg complain... okay, maybe i'm getting paranoid..

LOL, maybe just a little paranoid. 🙂 But hey, it could happen!

Still waiting for a reply from this thread creator. It would be nice to know if he did or did not flash his bios. If he did, it would be further proof and a warning to others not to try the same thing. If he didn't, then I wish he would say so so then we can move on and try to get it working for him.

i think there've been enuff horror stories of flashing bios to provide warning. if you still try.. well.. let's just say it's not excactly the smartest thing to do.. the risks for the minimal (if any) gain are high.

i have yet to see any proof an "flashed" card is any faster than just an "oc'd" card. is there any?

I havent heard of any at all. I just use Coolbits on my eVGA 5900nu. Gets it to 474/930 and stable. I know 5900Ultras are 450/850, but what does the 5950 run?

Nope, my Gainward 5900 had no problems with the 53.03s. I was even able to use coolbits to overclock to 450/950 (first swag) with stability.

that's what i have my 5900nu running

Very nice!

Highest ive ever seen is 500/1010 and i highly doubt it was stable, so thats a great OC.

is that with the bios-mod? before and after stable OCs for me were 449/933 and 499/950, completely stable. i lower my clock from the max overclock just so i don't break the card, but i have gotten up to 510/960.

no bios mod. i have yet to read anything conclusive indicating there's something to be gained there to justify the risk of a bad flash/dead card.

i've had it up to 500/1000 where it ran stable (and hot!) for several hours, but showed a bit of artifacting.
475/950 the sweet spot for me, and running 5950u speed on a card that cost $170 "out the door" is plenty value for me 🙂

No prob. Did you follow the driver cleaner instructions to the letter? And did you clean the cab files while in Driver Cleaner. They say its not necessary, but they recommend it. Driver Cleaner 2.7 should be the most recent version so make sure you have that one. Make sure you have plugged in the extra power connector to the 5900. ummm, what else.... What operating system are you running and what version of directX do you have installed.

Lets start with that.

weird.....I'm running a flashed FX5900. Before I flashed, I upgraded to the latest nVidia driver, 53.03. Flashed, now running at 525/970.

I didn't have version 2.7 of driver cleaner. Didn't use cab cleaner either. I have Windows XP Pro, DX9.0b, and omega 45.23

Download Driver Cleaner 2.7. Do a google search for it, you cant miss it.
Unzip the file and open the read me document and follow the instructions to the letter base on your operating system.

Give that a try.
