Warm deal, hot CPU.

Got an email from Newegg, it had this CPU in it. If your motherboard can handle it, this is a great alternative to the FX 8350 that typically costs about $200 and doesn't come with a game.

This combo with that CPU isn't a bad deal either. You get 16gb of Radeon ram and some dog tags added to the soup. You know you want them dog tags.

Seems like 2x 8GB 1600 DIMMs are fetching $150~, which makes the combo quite a nice deal. The AMD RAM also has pretty nice timings. Not sure what you're complaining about.

Make sure you account for 220w TDP on the processor if you plan on using this 24/7. That TDP at roughly .31 cents a kw/hr x 24/7 use ends up to be over $600 a year in electricity costs. That being said, the deal with the RAM makes me want to suggest this to a few clients who don't mind the extra heat

The power actually used while idle is a tiny fraction of 220W. 24/7 usage only applies if you have the CPU running at full load 24/7.

Nothing is going to load that cpu to 100% for more than a few seconds. And even during those brief flashes I seriously doubt you'd ever see the power spike over 150W. The only way you get to 200W is to run IBT or prime95 small fft.

I dunno where you shop, but maybe I just got spoiled by newegg's last month or two of deals. I am used to seeing 8GB sticks of DDR 1600 go for $60 or less.

I never said the combo deal was bad, I just said $160 for 16GB of 1600 RAM is a bit overpriced.

First off, newegg's RAM prices are a bit bloated right now. Secondly, RAM just took a hike in price, so yeah this is a good deal compared to what deals are currently out.

About 220w tdp not being used full-time: yeah, but it's still 220W its a mini heater.

Yeah, I grabbed my Viper 3 8GB 2133/1.5v kit from NewEgg for $43~ with a coupon this time last year.

SSDs certainly haven't gotten any cheaper either.

Yeah. I laugh thinking about when I built my current rig in late 2011. I was worried over spending the extra 45$ for 8gb more. RAM always gets super cheap and then goes back into being much more expensive and never gets cheap again.
