For how long General? A week? Two?
The first 2 weeks are huge for a game release, especially one this big.

Besides all this, I read on another forum a guy said the CompUSA in his town will have 6800Us in today, and everything I've read says 6800Us will be out in the next few weeks.
Yea, well, who cares about the 6800 U?

Do you think the NV40s, especially the GT, will be out in time for Doom 3? Unlikely.

How ironic. There's a solid chance that ATI has the best card to play Nvidia's flagship title at its time of release.

Where I work we will be getting our 6800 ultra import order this morning, so much for not available before Doom3 is released! :p

sure it of course comes down to the games you're playing...especially if you're not going to upgrade for a year or so...and whether or not you want to consider that all the games the 9800p is better at are a better reflection of what you're going to be playing in the future.

i can see how a 5900xt would be attractive to a person with a ~$160 budget...but if your budget is more like ~$200, i don't see how the 5900xt is worth it (feel free to say why you think it is...i'm not trying to argue...)

It is true Maskirova, the 9800Pro is a better card at CoD and Far Cry than the nV35 series, but those are just two games. I can find benchmarks where the 5900 is the better card.

like i said...it comes down to what games you're playing and what budget you have...but the original point of this thread had something to do with 5900xt vs. 9800 pro...and i was just making the point that buying the 5900xt only really make sense for someone with a ~$160 budget.

i don't think someone would be wise to buy a 59xx over the 9800p for doom3. [speculation] i doubt it will have significant, if any, increase in performance over the 9800p...and the 9800p is better in most other regards. [/speculation]

i also think it would be a mistake to buy a 59xx card for doom3 before seeing some benchmarks...just because it might be better...you're always poopooing buying cards for games that aren't out yet anyway, right? it'd be just like the idiots you discussed who all upgraded to 9800p/xt JUST for hl2...only to see it get delayed for another 8 months or so....except maybe without the delay.

i understand your frustration with the rehashing of old tech...it does seem shady...especially amidst these 9800p's they're selling with 128-bit ram :\ but that doesn't take away from the fact that the 9800p is still a great bargain for the $200 budget crowd...it should play hl2/doom3/STALKER well.

UT2k3 4xAA + 8x AF

The 9800 Pro staaands with...75.8fps!!!!

While the 5900 XT staaaaands with a puny 49.2fps!!!!

Now....let me think here for a second...;)

Of course this is just one benchmark, but that gives you a *rough* idea of how these two cards stand up to each other.
