FX-57 or X2 for Gaming System

4200+ overclocked to 2.6ghz. This will provide sweet performance all-around and possible future-proofness when games become multi-threaded. The performance difference wont be much worse compared to FX57 @ 3.0ghz. Plus you'll save almost half. Think of it as getting an extra 7800GTX for free.

if you're not intending to overclock then FX 57 as reviewd on AT
that AMD still makes the FX series the best chips for gaming.

of course they are not price friendly

well its obviously going to be my main machine.....and the computing world is moving past single threaded apps, etc........so it looks like i'll be shooting for a X2 series chips, i just dont know if i want one of the first revisions.

I still think that a decision for a gaming machine today needs to be based on the games and hardware available today, not based on the games that will come out next year.

By the time that the video card drivers and games BOTH utilize dual processors, the better setup will be an AMD X2 with the new M2 socket and DDR2.

Just my 2 cents worth.

If you want single core get a Venice or San Diego and o/c.
For Dual Dore get a 4400+ and o/c.

The venice is the best value ATM, but if you have the extra money to spend it would be better spend on going dualcore than faster singlecore stock speed.
Both the 4800+ and FX-57 have a crappy value/performance score, but if you have money shooting out your a$$ you might as well get one of those. 😉

Review compares FX-57 and X2

as others have said- if you are going to do anything else ever get a 4400 and OC

It doesnt state that the X2 tower IS a 4800+.....are we just assuming that is what is used in those benchmarks or...?
