If you had to pick between the two combinations....AMD FX-57 and a NVIDIA 6800gt or a AMD 3200 and a NVIDIA 7800GTX what would you choose. Whats more impotant a massive CPU with a good GPU or a massive GPU with a good CPU?

3200 + 7800GTX, yes the FX is the BEST processor for gaming as of NOW, but, it is not dual core, thats the problem, when multithread games/applications come, the X2 will beat the FX, if you can afford an FX-57...surely you can afford an X2 4400+/4800+....anyways I think getting a 3200 +(overclocking is good) and 7800GTX will last you quite a while, and when X2 become cheap you can sell off your 3200+ and get a dual core.

I think it depends on what you?ll be doing with the system. If it?s a decision based on gaming it still depends on what games you?ll be playing.

I have a 7800gtx /A64 3200+, I upgraded from a 6800gt. I saw a nice performance boost in all my games (BF2, GTR, rFactor demo, WoW, EQ2, Madden05, Tiger Woods 05). EQ2 saw the least performance increase but it?s known to be very cpu dependant.

I?ll probably get a new CPU when I get my tax refund in Feb but OC?ing the 3200 Venice in the meantime.

I have no idea why people would buy an FX, was it ever worth it? :S Meh I can have FX-57 speeds once I stop being a baby about overclocking and taking my 3700+ SD to 2.8GhZ :D

The 6800GT is now a mid-range card.

The only people who should consider a 6800GT are budget oriented users, not those considering buying the fastest and most expensive retail chips.

3700+ and 7800GT. Look at the main page of GottaDeal.com, 7800GT for under $350 from Dell!

Gaming: AMD64 3200+ and 7800 GTX
Other: AMD64 3700+ or X2 and 6800 GT

AMD-57 is overrated, IMO as compared to the 3700+ or a dual core.

X2's are the best of every world. The perfect processor(s).
