Why are these darned things so hard to get ahold of? I've been shopping for 2 weeks now, and NO one has got any in stock. I've been eying a few places that have decent prices, but most don't give ETA's. One that did have an ETA of 1-28 the other day, changed to 1-31. Well, yesterday, the price jumped from $880 to $1,009. So, there goes my chance at that early ETA site, because there's no way I'm gonna pay that much.

Anyone know of any places with the retail version for a decent price?
 
I've been looking just like you.......Nope!!!!!!! I read somewhere that Venders have first come first served. It's such a hot one right now that the end user will pay anything to get there hands on one. I finally settled in on a 3000+ chester until things settle down (hopefully). The chester will get me very familiar with my new build.....my thinking anyway.
 
if youre going to spend $600+++ to get a FX55 when one can just overclock a 3000+ to 2.6Ghz for $155, then I have a bridge to sell you.
 
some people like warrantys. besides, the extra cache is a lot better for some applications like vidoe editing. besides not all cpus oc the same. some 3200+s crap out at 2.3. alos, the fx has unlocked multipliers and has bragging rights.

Yes it does. But there's immoral people (seems like you may be one of them) who request warranty service anyway if they ruin their stuff by overclocking.

Which is why I went for that 155 buck item. Who knows how this price thing is going go anyway. All's i know is that I'm not going to buy a REAL expensive CPU from any ol' vender....know what I mean.

I'm not quite sure what I'm gonna do yet, but if I can't get ahold of one soon, I might just end up getting a FX-53 or 4000+. Still debating though.
 
depends on waht application you will be using itfor. usually, the fx53 is good if you need that top end performance as it lends itself over to more bandwith/memory intensive apps like graphics/audio encoding/editing as well as gsming. but for a high end gaming rig, 4000+ will be more than enough.

Micro Center still has the deal of the FX-53 for the "bargain" price of $719.99. Expensive, but probably one of the best prices on a Retail FX-53 you'll find right now from a reputable company. The (Retail) 4000+ is $40.00 less at $679.99 but does not have the fully unlocked multiplier of the FX processors.

I never RMAed a bad OCed CPU in my life, n00bcake. Assumtions a child will make.

Also, even if you do burn up your OC 3000+, you can havefour more as backups for less than one FX55. LOL Hey, if you like the feel of AMD assramming you for something you can get for free, dont PMS at me 😉
