FX-55 & Apple iTunes Visualize

I recently got an AMD FX-55, along with an Abit AV8 motherboard.

In games, my FPS are in the 90's to 100's. But I was perplexed tonight to find that my computer started chugging trying to render full screen "visualization effects" in iTunes. For the unintiated, visualization effects are those pretty shapes and colors that change to the beat of the music. Winamp had visualization effects as well.

When I tried to run these effects full screen, the framerate was pathetic (probably 25fps), and it jumped my CPU heat by 6-10 degrees Celsius.

Are these effects that CPU demanding? I just couldn't believe the top of the line AMD processor couldn't hack it in this area.

My specs:

AMD FX-55 (2.66Ghz)
Abit AV8 Motherboard
2GB RAM (Corsair XMS)
Asus 6800 Ultra 256MB
74GB WD Raptor 10RPM
