From time to time, we do an evaluation of who we are and what we do best. I spent the last two days doing this with representatives from every department within FatWallet.
After significant discussion, it was determined FatWallet.com would be a better site if we focus on what we can do better than anyone else.
While there is NO DOUBT that great people take part in each of our forum categories, a unanimous decision was made to remove the following forum categories from the site:
Grocery Coupons
Grocery Coupon Trading
For Sale/For Trade
Rewards
Gmail Invitations
Every forum category on the site was analyzed in the same fashion, WITHOUT REGARD to the profitability of each category. (I say this knowing some folks will claim the contrary). To be fair, there were a couple categories that just barely made the cut. Still, the above recommendations were unanimous (7-0).
The decisions were based upon each category's fit with where we are going as a company, and the resources we have available to us to give FatWallet users the best experience they can get.
Where is FatWallet going as a company you may ask? Our current "Destination statement" is: "To be the preferred resource online consumers use to make smart decisions." This may evolve from time to time, but is where we are shooting for.
2005 is going to be a fun and exciting year for FatWallet. The improvements we have outlined for the coming months will dramatically improve the entire user experience.
The above listed forums will be archived on January 3rd, 2005. We've allowed this time to give users the chance to set up a yahoo group or similar activity if they wish to continue their community elsewhere.
While I hope FatWallet will continue to serve users of these forum categories in other ways, I also understand that we're likely going to lose some members that had previously made FatWallet part of their lives. We are glad to have had the opportunity to serve, and we look forward to serving the entire community better in the months and years to come.
