I love her to death but damn she sucks at running. She is a puppy (11 months I think) so she'll get used to it...

for two days now our midnight run has sucked.she keeps getting tangled in the leash...she keeps changin sides, keeps slowing down:('

Anyone know of a good retractible leash that is inexpensive and rather small?

..and will not make me look like a douche...in other words, neon-colored stuff is out:D

One thing I hate is when Morons ride a bike and expect their dog to be kosher with the rythm.

I use an extra long nylon leash with my dog. Hold it in my left hand and guide it with my right hand - right arm being the "suspension" to take up the changes in pace. After awhile he gets used to me maintaining a steady light pressure, or him applying it depending how you look at it.

Best thing to do when training your dog to run is not let the leash out. Keep the dog close to you so she can't change sides or pace.

I do that, but sometimes she goes to a dead stop to smeel some other fools sh!t or piss or whatever, and although I am a big guy, she fvking pulls me back or I end up yanking really hard accidentally..I would like to prevent that...

You have to properly train your dog first off to walk along side you without pulling away anywhere. Always walk the dog on one side, the left side is best. Keep telling it to heel and hopefully the dog will click in, if it does not, get a choking collar, so every time the dog pulls away it gets choked. As for running, the dog is still young, and its best not to run pups too hard as their muscles need to fully mature, maybe you need to wait a bit longer. A retractable leash won't give you any solution at all and will create more problems. Your dog will learn to obey commands with time and jog with you in peace, its all up to you and how much patience you have. My dog used to run along side me without a leash and never lose pace or stray off course, but unfortunetely it died :(

Don't use a retractible leash. Get a 3/4" leather leash 6 ft. long.

It will make you look like a man not a wuss.

I realize that I jsut have to be patient..we only run like 2 or 3miles right now...nothing big. SHe really ahs the hang of walking, but it all goes to hell when we start running...she gives me this eager puppy dog face when I ask her "you wanna run mona?" and then she gets all excited and ...bah...

<---realizes that he has to be patient....

Ahh I think I see the problem now, I never had it with my dog but its common. I take it your dog gets really excited when you start to run thinkings its going to be chased or play catch or something? It has to learn to differentiate between play time and masters run time :) That will come with time though.
