I left my driver's license in a Kinko's once, when I realized I left it there I ran back to get it but it was gone. Six months later I got a letter from the local police department saying I was the victim of a crime. I called up the investigator and he said someone trying to pass fraudulent checks was found in possession of my DL. I told him what happened, how I lost my DL and I guess they probably added it to the list of the perp's offenses.
Just goes to show that there are thieves EVERYWHERE. The most unsuspecting people can be thieves, and I do mean the most unsuspecting.

That sux! My wife left her bag in a supermarket, when she got home and realized it, she immediately called. Someone brought it to the office. We also called all the CC companies and the bank (checkbook) and asked them to put a hold on everything until she got her bag back and checked it over. Nothing was touched. We were luck some dirtbag didn't pick it up.
My mom lost her wallet and has her credit cards charged at gas stations too. They do that because they are testing to see if the cards still work, thats what a cop told my mom. They then took the cards and went to a movie theather and they started buying tickets, they do that so they can buy tickets then take em to the CS desk and get a refund, quick cash. You have to cancel all your credit cards right away and call the police. Your identity could get stolen so thats why its important to call them.

I read con people go to gas stations first to check if the card has been cancelled..
i thought it was in my room, because ALL my cc's (except for 1) are on my desk, because usually i dont keep that many cards in my wallet (i'd take a check card and a visa/mastercard/discover/amex with me, but all were in my room, except for my discover, so i thought i just lost it in a laundry basket or something)
damn bastards... at least i was able to dispute the charges (3 gas stations), and they took a trip up to north cali (im down in socal)

we found out yesterday that somebody opened a Pal-pal account with our corporate credit card. :| We were going to buy some telecom equipment off of Ebay dirt cheap and when we entered the card info we got an error that the cc number was already in the system. Pal-pal is doing an investigation.
