I'm in Falls Church.... but here's the solution to your problem... probably. I think cox filters mac addresses... and once you registered with your PC nic it's set to only use that mac address. The solution may be to either:

A) fight with cox to use your router mac.... or

b) change the router mac manually to match the nic on your pc.

try that....

have you tried registering the MAC of the router like others have suggested? Perhaps only the mac of your network card is in their system if this is the case, just clone the mac of your nic inot your router.

Hey! Here's some help! Use the right forum damnit!

Don't try and say this is ATOT material because there are at least three other forums that can help you here. They are:

1) Networking - because this is a network problem

2) General hardware - because this could be a hardware problem

3) Politics and News - because overzealous, mouthy punks like you who know very little about what's actually going on but still have a strong opinion about it hang out there

So... I moved to a new house and the only broadband provider available was Cox. YES STUPID FVCKING COX. Anyways, I try to set up my router, but I am not getting any connection whatsoever. I talk to an online rep, and he says you either pay 300 dollars for the home networking service or you're on your own. My router worked at my old house using Comcast, why won't it work here? Basically the mother fvcker didn't know sh_t and basically hung up on me. WOW im about to cancel this mother fvcking internet service altogether. Anyone that can help me plz do.

I had problems with my adelphia cable and router. The fix was to set the WAN speed to 10Mbit instead of 100Mbit in the router.
(Basically the speed between the router and cable modem)

Try this first, it might work.

When you change the MAC address that the cable modem is connected to on a Cox connection (at least in Arizona) you have to wait 20-30 for Cox to register the new MAC address on their end.

Unplug the modem for 20-30 minutes and hook up the router. Plug the modem back in and it should now be working when you walk through the auto-detect WAN setup in your router.

I knew before I even opened this thread that the problem was user error and not a Cox problem. I was right.
