Fuzzy monitor?

I just bought a compaq s700 17" monitor, granted it was surplus, and only 10 bucks.

the problem is that when i wake out of the screen saver, or when I allow the monitor to be off for like 5-10 minutes, its crystal clear. but after I use it for ~ 5 minutes it starts to fuzz out. does anyone know what causes this, or what i can do to possibly fix it? or is it just junk? If it starts out clear is it some kind of over heating?

Do you have something magnetic next to it (I assume for $10 we are talking CRT)? If you degaus it does it get better?

nothing magnetic next to it, but there may have been, I did buy it used. It doesn't have a degause, but I'll take it down to have it done today or tomorrow. if that doesn't work does anyone have any Idea what may be causing the fuzzyness?

yes it does.
it is probably one of the outermost 6 buttons or a combination of both being pushed in at once.

hey, imagine that! it does have a degause thanx. although that isn't really helping that much.......

any other Idea?

You did test it before purchase right? Apparently(and research this before you try it) there should be two screws that focus and adjust on top of the tube somewhere. Should be only two and should fix fuzziness. You'll find them if you dare to take the shielding(cover) off.

I dare to, I have had them off before. yeah I tested it, but like I said in OP the fussiness comes after like 5 minuets. I didn't test it for that long

So I took the casing off, and played with the adjustments...there are no focus adjustments, just vertical, horizontal and like a diagonal one. So what would cause it to be out of focus? Anyone have any Ideas? or should I just throw it off of a large building and start looking for another one?

The fact that it only happens after warming up a little suggests that it could just be worn out. Being in a high humidity area can also cause monitors to wear out suprisingly fast. Other than that.... beats me

yeah its kinda pissing me off....i have another one that doesn't do red...yeah, what a world...if I wasn't a starving college student, I'd just spring for a new one...
