Futureshop screwing me on a warranty, how should I handle this?

Bought a monitor from futureshop last august with a 5 year product plan warranty. When I bought it the guy told me that if anything goes wrong they will exchange it for the same model, and if they don't have it they will repair it. If the repairs take longer than 30 days I get a newer model.

Monitor just blew last night, won't come out of sleep-mode, call futureshop and they say that it's not an exchange product, that it has to be repaired and only if they can't repair it in 60 fvcking days will they replace it for a new one.

How should I go about handling this? I need to get this monitor exchanged, I don't have a spare at home nor can I afford one. Any help is appreciated.

Do you have a receipt and a copy of your warranty plan or whatever they call it that shows the 5 year/30 day thing on it...?

I have the receipt which shows the purchase of the warranty plan, however it does not detail the conditions of the warranty.

Find the warranty.

They don't give an additional warranty, I don't think anyway, it just says on the receipt that I purchased one.

No, it says on the receipt that there was a 5 year product plan purchased, they don't give a seperate warranty.

Actually they do supply you with a folded glossy paper explaining the types of warrantees available. If in doubt, just visit the store ask for the warranty brochure.

I suppose I'm out of luck then, well we'll see what happens with the store manager.
If the 1% chance of the salesgoon still working there pays off, you can try to get him in trouble for lying.

If you buy an extended warranty, it's up to you to save a copy of it as it was when you bought it, otherwise they can try to follow their current policy. Your original plan might have said 30 dyas, who knows if you didn't save the details?

the plan went from 30 days to 60 days in july or august 2003. so if you bought in 2004, it was 60 days for sure. the only things that are replacements are Peripherals (video cards, HDDs etc, and interestingly enough they don';t get tested, so it's more of an upgrade plan lol), Flash Based MP3 players, and some HDD based mp3 players, the notable exception being the ipod that is still repair. Some small appliances are exchange i believe although you should double check..

for your situation, what I personally would do is order a CRT monitor online with free shipping to my house and return it on the 30th day. if you don't get yours within 30 days, then order up a second one til you get yours back. this way you don't have to deal with the dumbfvck managers and you essentially get a loaner.. note that you won't be able to do this with LCDs since they have a 14 days return policy.

or if you want to rub it in their face and show them how stupid they are with their policies, then just buy one right after they sign in your unit for repair lol.

1) Get the piece of paper Futureshop gave you as proof of your warranty. It will have warranty details
2) Xerox copy the reciept and warranty
3) Take the monitor to Futureshop with receipt+warranty in-hand and don't let them take the receipt or warranty.

If they don't honor the warranty they gave you, threaten to take them to court. If that doesn't convince the tech at the counter to do it, talk to a manager. If they won't do it, talk to the store manager. If that doesn't work, call corporate.

some of their managers actually don't mind going to court over things like this lol
the rest just stop helping you as soon as you mention court and say that if it's a legal issue, then you should contact the company lawyers at head office because they don't have any legal representation present.

It's not a legal issue until someone actually gets served. Pressure them all you want. You never know who might realize that the store's being stupid and actually step up to the plate to do their job.
