thx

EDIT: Ouch, ATi taking it in the ass across the board.

EDIT2: Can't wait for the ATi driver fix for 3d2006.

EDIT3: 3677 for a 7800GT, I'm happy.

EDIT4: Dissapointed they reused alot of tests, but at least they upped them to SM3.0 and HDR.

FINAL EDIT: I'm gonna wait on a few more sites to post results before making a final decision on the overall current lead holder. At least a Driverheaven review.

Interesting. Ive found two things interesting.

Firstly, its seems that the 7800GTX actually performs faster than the X1800XT in S.M3.0 tests/HDR (even in S.M 2.0).

Secondly, This new bench puts every card to its kness, and im sad to realise that a 6800GS scores around 1000!!! which would result in 6600GTs and lower cards scoring around 500!!

WTF, 3 of the 4 tests are the same as last year (with some extra graphical effects sprinkled)?!? One thing I always liked about 3Dmark was the real-time scenes that display top-of-the-line graphical prowess. I'd watch videos of the tests if I couldn't play them on my PC, and now they're too lazy to even add fresh scenes.

Could explain how they got it out so quick.

I'm surprised that nVidia cards seem to have that much of an advantage over ATI. This can't be good for ATI, 3Dmark is the preferred benchmark or the ignorant consumer so if something about ATI cards doesn't work well with 3Dmark06 then many consumers may consider an ATI card slower (whether it is or not).

Elite Bastards looked at 3Dmark05 and how it contained an nVidia proprietary feature called Deep Stencil Texturing which sped up nVidia cards (Link). The strange results in 3Dmark06 are probably due to something similar but as of now its all guess work.

actually the X1800XT crossfire scores a 5815 and 7800GT SLI scores 5732, unless of course you have overclocked cards, which isn't mentioned in your sig so I'm assuming otherwise.

I'm pretty sure I can squeeze out 100 points or so :) I doubt they even OCd those cards so I'll be breaking 6k for sure. And yes, I know the X1800XT CF can be overclocked too. Dont sink my ship!

So what's the deal with ATI's scores? They seem to be a bit... low...

So what would be considered a good range (of a score) to be in? around 5k?

Edit: To play "2006's games" on a high level of quality and playability.

the dude in the canyon flight looks a hell of a lot better than before.

how do they do the cpu tests now then? from what ive read so far it sounds like its changed from previous where the CPU had to render the image.

now it sounds like the GPU is processing the images at low quality 640x480, and the CPU is plied with maasses of physics and AI calcs.

looks like standard res is up to 12x10

Yeah, which goes against what real games show. I think I know which one to put more faith into.

Also, both CPU tests are setup to use multiple threads (at least three, more if more processors are available) so we should see some good benefits with dual core processors in the new 3DMark06 benchmark (since the CPU score is weighted in the overall score now).
This should benefit P4 HT too. I surmise in another year, there will be enough new titles with support to make single core AMD gamers look to upgrade to multi-core.

Btw, I am happy to see they are trying to estimate overall gaming performance of a system now, and not just the vid card.

I guess Ati is getting low scores because it was tested without AA... and we all know nvidia > ati without AA so.. lets wait for some AA results and check it after

You have to remember that the big big BIG thing for ATI is AA and AF in these kinds of tests. I would like to see a GTX beating them in a AA+AF enviroment

Also the Nvidia drivers are newer than the 5.13's from ATI , come to think of it. there should be a new driver out very soon.

I'm looking forward to promised the follow-up using different CPUs. Very interested in wether the gains from dual core or even HT, are indeed significant.

Either way, it's not a good thing. In the real world, the XT Xfire setuo would beat the 7800GT SLI setup in almost every case. Once 3DMark has gotten to the point where it doesn't actually reflect the performance of one card in relation to another it pretty much loses all usefulness.
