Future Watercooling Project

Hi, I'm planning on getting a new system next summer with whatever's cool at that time.. Something like Nahelem and some Nvidia GTX 280 SLI (or AMD equivelent).. But you guys probably get the picture. It will be all new hardware from scratch.

I want to start planning now so that when i buy all this stuff it will all be cooled with some kickass watercooling.

I was wondering about the Lian Li Modular Cobe case since it has room for 2 radiators (1 3X120 and 1 2x120). This is probably overkill, but hey... if nvidia has the extreme heat output they say the chip will have then I might as well go for it.

I'n new to watercooling, which means I've never built a WC system before. I was wondering about your thoughts for CPU blocks, pumps, tube diameter (i was thinking 3/8"), etc....

I was thinking black ice extreme III or whatever they are called for RADs, since they are easy to come by in Norway.

Anyway, please share some thoughs and I'll be on my way of drooling at my future system!!

Anyhow, 1 problem with future builds.

No TDP approximations.

No Real Block compatibility support

And No way to know how it will perform, hence we cant recomend squat besides the generic setup, which involves a D-tek a DDC or D5, and a MCR of some sort. However

No TDP's and we cant tell you how large of an MCR you will need, or what cpu block will fit without issues.

So wait til things start coming out, and then come back to us when we also have more info!

OK, that makes sense..

but if I were to build it now with mu current setup and then transfer to the other one later one.
My current build is
EVGA 680i SLI
Q6600 @ 3000
XFX 8800GTX SLI
4 x 1GB DDR2 800 ram
bouhc of HD's.

Can one big loop handle all that? or do i need 2 seperate ones? Is there really a big difference between 3/8" and 1/2" tube size? Will it matter with 2 big RADs?

I was thinking Apogee GTX for the cpu and Zalmans block for the GPU's as they cover most of the cards.

sorry i dont promote ANY zalman products minus there 120mm Fans.
There vastly inferior in everything.

There RnD is stupid. They go after bling over function.
Silver is a much better metal to plate instead of gold in aspect to h2o.

Gold = bling,
Silver = anti microbe + better themal transfer.

Both metals protect against corrosion, so tell me what metal would you use for water now?

That itself should tell you how stupid zalman is.


Anyhow we cant recomend you jack. im sorry. The apogeeGTX is LGA775 only. Neha is nowhere close to LGA775 platform.

Do you get it now? Also from the benches, neha puts so little heat from the looks, i dont know if dual loops is gonna be manditory anymore.

If you need advice for your current rig, id wait. To be honest i went though 4 680i's and i hated all of them. That board is not recomended to tweek out if you dont know what your doing. Its very senstive to blocks, expecially the NB, and the Mosfets need to have perssure.

Just hold off until neha, and start your entire project then. Thats my 2 cents.

Oh even then you should at least wait for me to setup a neha rig. This is the only way i would ever feel comfortable knowing what works on neha to recomend.

and knowing me, i'll probably snag one at launch and then go though massive planning on how to h2o it. :\

ok, thanks for the info.

I have to admit that my 680i sucks when it comes to Quad OC. My P35 Asus P5k OC'ed my q6600 to 3.6, rock solid. Only problem was MAJOR issues with harddrive performance..

I guess we'll talk again when all the new goodies come out..

that would be the best solution.

A lot can come out in 5-6 months when neha is expected.

lol, good point. Buy a few of the odd's and ends now. Like the tubing, fittings, maybe the fans, the rad? You could always start the project now on your case. Nothing wrong with having the project half-way ready when the other things you want finally come along.

That much time to plan and execute is bound to turn out great results.

Blocks can change and (of course) shape and mounting must change with different socket and GPU modifications of future generation. Other than that, same circulatory basics apply. Water cooling is a breeze compared to marine life support systems with reactors, eductors, post charge filtering, analytical zones, etc. The lack of safeguards is also astonishing hence why I sit on the sidelines. :laugh:
