"Future-ready systems" from Dell

So I got this e-mail from Dell today DellFutureProof.JPG , hoping it was something about their Black Ice phase change system or something. I could not help but laugh at that thing; I think that system would be future proof if it was 2 years ago 😉

I can't even imagine trying to run Vista on 512MB of RAM.

Anyway, just thought I would share.

Cheers,
KT

Looks fine here, and I don't see the problem. It's clear from the ad that Dell is touting the Vista-readiness of the system, which is understandable.

lol, this is pretty funny to me because the system is already like 2 years old. LOL if you want a future ready system why not go with a core 2 duo. Future readiness is almost never cheap.

it clearly states "future ready" not future proof, ie vista ready, which is coming in the future.... 😕

All right fine, you future-ready guys are right. Still I find it highly likely that those with less computer knowledge would think they are getting a more powerful machine than they really are.

Call me crazy but I still think it is kind of funny 😀

The idea is probably to offer the very least to customers who only want as much as they absolutely need to install and run Windows Vista, which is the forseeable future of Windows operating systems.

You all seem to think vista is really hard to run. It runs fine on my older system with a 1.8ghz p4, 512mb pc133, 80gb hd, pci 6200 video for basic tasks (what 95% of computers are used for). Yeah, it's a ram hog, but I'm surprised that it works as well as it does with 512mb.

It is a fairly upgradeable system. Supports up to 4GB DDR2 memory, dual core AM2 cpu's, two hard drive brackets, a PCIe x16 slot, and a power supply capable of running a 7950 GT or even an X1950 Pro. It is also Vista compatible.

No computer is "future proof" in all sense of the words.

That's always been the case. If an ad says a comp is powerful but it only has an A64 3700+, the consumer will think that it's powerful. Same thing with cars.

Funny how people are defending an ad which is bordering on an outright lie.

And how exactly is that a lie?
-Does it not come with what is listed?
-Is it not "ready" to run Vista?

I hate it that people are always bitching about Dell. Its a corporation whose sole purpose is to make money. Its called marketing, deal with it.

The whole reason this thread was even started is because the OP misunderstood "future ready" to mean "future proof," which is obviously impossible.

a 3700 is nothing to sneeze at, especially considering that 90%+ of these machines will be used to browse the web, look at pictures taken with a cell phone camera, type 2-3 word documents a month and maybe look at some flash animation. hell through in a 2GB of ram and a 8800gts and it would walk all over my rig while gaming.....

if they were selling it with a xp2800 i would be a bit p!ssed, but most people dont use their machines like we do.

Well, actually the E521 does not physically support dual slot video cards. And the power supply may be a bit weak for an 8800 GTS. 7950 GT's and X1950 Pro's work just fine though.

I actually gave my parents an E521 for Christmas. X2 3800+, 1GB, XP Pro, DVDRW. It will suit them very well. They had a P3 800mhz Dell that lasted them over 5 years.
