Well lets see, I purchased a e8500 and two 4850's. I am currently using one as the games I play run perfectly fine. Hell, I played Stalker in DX10 with a few settings turned down and played great 1680-1050.

Once I move to crossfire I will be set for another year. So I expect to get a good two years out of my system with very good frame rates. It is all about planning, you purchased the rig's IMO at a awkward time.

sunshaft is one of the 4 tests

Stalker CS is not badly coded; neither is Crysis - they are ahead of their time; the visuals are impressive with everything maxed out - i look forward to playing them that way at better than 14x9 😛

Those rigs should stay pretty solid. It's good to oc your 4850's too. As crossfire improves, drivers improve, and games utilize more cores, your rig will continue to remain very competitive. I don't see it choking out any time soon.

Have fun with the multi-gpu setup. They are always more time consuming (and entertaining) 🙂

now you are trying to run away from the issue - there is NO "future proof"
.. you made a ridiculous claim that the "8800 lasted MORE THAN 3 years" when it was superseded in HALF that time 😛

Yes, the GTX is OLD >> OLD!
- there are MANY games it cannot play - *compared* to 4870 and GTX260 .. and lets ADD 260+/280/285/295/X2
- it is less than a 4850; a midrange DX10 card .. it fails with AA and cannot handle 19x12

of course, depending on your standards
--if yours are very low you can keep 8800GTX for many years more
