Future of AMD Duron CPU

Having just reported about AMD Athlon getting faster in the nearest future, we got some info about Athlon?s younger brother: AMD Duron. Here is what we can expect:

Q1 2001: Duron 850MHz.
Q2 2001: Duron 900MHz.
H2 2001: Duron 1000MHz.
Q1 2002: Duron 1100MHz.
Q2 2002: mass production of new Duron CPUs based on Appaloosa core (0.13micron manufacturing technology). The first samples of these new processors should be manufactured in Q1 2001 already.
So, we have every reason to hope that all next year we will enjoy cool features offered by 700-800MHz Duron processors 🙂 And then we will get acquainted with new 0.13micron Duron, which may turn out even cooler...

i'm not sure, but since both the new duron and athlon will be based on .13 manufacturing process, it means different pin counts, which in turn means that the socket on those new 760 mobos will not be compatible with the current durons and athlons. i could be wrong, but let's hope for the best.

It would be pretty nasty if they didn't work off the socket A boards considering their price. Hey, no sense to create worries.
Cheers,
Joe
