Hey all

Quick question,

I currently have a Gigabyte X38-DQ6 with a Q6600 (333 x 9) and 8GB RAM (DDR-2 667), 3 TB HDD, 8800 GTS 512 running Vista 64. My wife is asking for an update on her machine (4800 X2, A8n32-sli, 2GB RAM, 1 TB HDD), and i will give her my DQ6 and Q6600 and get something else.

Will the X48 be the last 775 chipset released by intel before the swith to Nehlem or is anything else comming down the intel pipeline that will support 775

I known that nvidia is doing something with integrated graphics running a quasi-sli with a descreet GPU installed

Thanks

Kevin

I am not sure what blue means... but it is not a good idea to get either X chipset.

The 775 socket will be replaced for nehalem... so penryn is the last 775 CPU. So for your spanking new e8400 wolfdale (which is the only CPU to get right now)... will you spend 100$ for a solid P35 mobo that will overclock to 4ghz on air and 5ghz on water. or will you get a pointlessly expensive X38/X48 mobo at 200$+/300$+ and possibly with DDR3 (only 10x the price of DDR2... literally 10x the price).
The only reason to get either X board is if you have money coming out of your ears, and you wanna take that C2Extreme beyond 5Ghz with water instead of cascade/liquid nitrogen cooling (Or combine the X with the cascade cooling for an even greater OC). Otherwise its better to just spend another 100$ on the CPU.

OR if there is a very specific feature on either that you need. I for example needed 6 SATA ports. So I had to get a P35+ICH9R southbridge based mobo instead of simple P35+ICH9 (or an nvidia/ati board). added another 30$ to my total cost. not a big deal.
I don't know of any special X38/48 features that make it a worthy buy.

Did you mean Latest

Last is a heavy word in a company, imagine "so long Design and R & D group, thanks for everything"

Hey, well, X48 is the last Socket 775 high-end chipset. There will be more chipsets coming for mainstream in spring of this year.

P45 chipset
G45 chipset with GMA X4500HD IGP
G43 chipset/GMA X4500
G41 chipset/GMA 4500
Q45 chipset/GMA 4500
Q43 chipset/GMA 4500

The only non-IGP chipset is the P45 chipset.

DDR3-1333 support
-P45
-G45

IGP with full HD decode
-G45

2 DIMMs per channel
-G45
-P45
-Q45
-Q43

1 DIMM per channel
-G43
-G41
