Bonder: Hey! Frey! Bender's Back!!!
Fry: Really??
Bonder: No. I just thought saying that would make you feel happy.

dvd sales are going to die thats for sure.
Why would DVD sales be affected by the new voices? The DVDs out are the good years... with the proper actors.
I think he meant DVD's from the new series. The argument here is (I think) that only serious fans would consider buying DVD's at all, and since the new series is going to be so different from the old, they wont be buying them at all.
My hope is that the new series will attract all kinds of new fans and the show will continue from there.
Realistically, this will die a horrible, bloody death. The old fans will hate. New people wont find enough changes to make them watch it. Only hardcore animation/scifi freaks will watch this show regularily and that might not be enough to keep it on the air.

bingo, fox just stabbed fans in the face.

Why am I not surprised? No LAN in Starcraft, no original voice actors in Futurama, stupid DRM in every video game, socialism in the U.S, stolen election in Iran, the world is going to end.....................................................................................................in 2012.

"The show must go on" ?? WHat a bunch of dumb fucks. Pay the voice actors or get the fuck out. You just cut your viewership by 90%!

Err, it's just voices, guys. We got used to a different actor in Bewitched. Characters are not limited to being played/voiced by just one actor. The Popeye characters were voiced by several different actors and actresses over the years. James Bond got played by several actors but he's still James Bond. And the look of The Simpsons characters has changed over time.

Trust me FOX will find a way of screwing it up.

The Simpsons looked like crap on Tracey Ullman and through its first season. The writing only got good starting at the 2nd season and they really haven't changed much, except the switch from hand drawn animation to computer based which still has a weird flow to it.

For those of you saying they asked for too much, now that they have no job security with the new offer, why wouldn't they ask for more pay per episode? They're switching to a new network, new fan base, new storylines, all after a multi-year hiatus. That increases their personal risk significantly, given the other opportunities they may pass on to re-join Futurama. I think it's a completely rational choice on their part.

Sounds like a BS story to me. They wouldn't continue the simpsons if they lost any of their main voice actors, doubt they'd continue futurama without the cast.

voice acting takes so little effort compared to the payoff.

First I'd read of this, I'm having flashbacks of the shitty Beavis and Butthead episodes where Beavis couldn't even do his own laugh.

Rule of thumb, never ever ever ever change your voice acting in a cartoon based show. It's a very distinguishing aspect of the characters, gives them life, identifies them, etc. There has been several instances of this happening over time and nearly all of them were bad.

which is true, though they are integral to bringing the characters to life. they fill in the blanks...animation has very little detail or acting ability if you think about it. so its necessary to have good talent to make the characters have weight.

you really think its gonna be that hard to find people that can do very good imitations of the voices?

Finding someone to imitate Billy West's voice acting would be like finding someone to imitate Tiger Woods' golfing. He's the best in the business, you can't imitate the best.

Who cares about effort? There are tons of jobs out there that pay for more than just effort - people paid according to their talent and ability as well as their effort.
