So your friends forums are going to have over 110,000 registered members with about 500 online all the time?

Do you have AIM or MSN?

VBullitin leaves me with a really nasty taste in my mouth, it seems really "cheap" in appearence, as well I've seen it crack, and when it does, it cracks HARD. its been known to clobber databases requiring days of work to restore messages, and even then there are problems. not a solution that I would reccomend. if you have extremely high volume, and your host supports DB + ColdFusion, use fusetalk, if its a small site use phpbb or invision. whichever you prefer. I wouldn't touch VB with a 10 foot poll personally, but thats me.

heh I guess AT gets a lot more traffic than I thought.
The site in question has 40k members with members online ranging from 40-150+

i used to use PHPBB here: http://edmonton-elite.cjb.net/phpbb/index.php
then i switched over to invisionboard http://edmonton-elite.cjb.net/invision/index.php

IMO, invision is the best board because it's free and it is the absolute king of mods. go to http://ibplanet.com for tons of mods. while PHPBB has like 50 mods or so, invision has 1044 (not including skins or graphics).although PHPBB is free and works great, it doesn't have nearly as many options as invision does.

one of the downsides to remember about FuseTalk is that it doesn't exactly have the same board code as the other forums do. yabb, ikonboard, invisionboard, phpbb, vbulletin and many other forums, the standard URL tag is name. when you use something like FuseTalk, nobody is really used to the tag setup.

That's exactly why I like it.

Even though my forums have a lot of babe threads and neffing, I use about 500MB a month bandwidth.

Just a quick note, Winamp forums run Vbulletin and receive just as much traffic as AT, if not more. So Vbulletin can scale.
My vote goes to phpBB. Open Source and free, r0x. Plus is can scale nicely too.
