Chicago needs money, lots and lots of money. The only way for Chicago to get money is to take from the people who live there. This is the result.

I know a fellow who lives in a mid sized town somewhere in Texas, he said that shooting down traffic cameras was a very popular local hobby. After a while they just stop putting them back up.

Anyone making an unprotected left will be in the middle of the intersection and start their turn after the light as went from yellow to red.

That's how it's done.

The law in every state I've ever lived in prohibits entering the intersection if the signal is red. If it turns red when you're already in it (such as waiting to turn left), that's not illegal.

red light cameras are a scam. BUT in IL they have taken it a step farther.

the company that had red light cameras in chicago got busted for giving bribes to city officials.

Then they got busted for reducing the Yellow light time.

Now this?

they should yank them but they won't. Though one city did just that. think it was naperville that yanked the cameras after it came to light that the yellow lights were messed with and they were putting the cameras in areas with little to no accidents instead of areas that had a lot.

I am sure you have never broken any traffic laws, right? Even on accident? Never turned into the wrong lane, or switched lanes too close to an intersection? Ever follow too close, or failed to signal at least 100 feet before the turn? Ever tint your car windows?

No, he breaks traffic laws all the time. He is secure in the knowledge that he will never be issued a ticket by his brothers in blue.

I would think laws like speed limits and traffic lights do a lot more good than harm. You're free to believe that everyone will drive at a safe speed and yield at intersections without penalties against such, but you're wrong. =)

This article says studies show that people drive at speeds they are confortable with, and that speed limits have very little influence on how fast people drive:

I'd think that if there were "furor" over the lights, people would be vandalizing them. Since they're not vandalizing them in Chicago, I think, "slightly annoyed, but still sheep" is more appropriate.
