So my friend comes over, who mostly plays games on his PS2. So he comes over and I show him FEAR. I ran it on all high/med setting w/ x2aa, x4af, at 10x7. During a scene in the starting movie, there is some very nice lighting shining off the floor and person so I point it out and say
"Amazing graphics aren't they?"
So he says "Yeah, wow, those are sweet."
So then, I say, "Wish your PS2 could do that?"
Then he says "Yeah, those graphics are great. Its just amazing how it actually shows each tile on the floor instead of having it all be one flat surface."
He wasn't being sarcastic...

Wow, it's just funny how the simplest thing like tiles shock consol users, yet for a PC if the game doesn't have normal everyday textures, then the game just sucks or was made earlier than 2000. Only after a bit did he see the lighting. Even after seeing it though, the thing he was most amazed by through the whole game (the insane shaders, lighting, and firefights) was still the tiles.

You can't bash PS2 though. It is 6 years old. And 6 years ago it was far superior to computer in graphics department
Although didn't take too long for computer to supress it again

lol it's funny to see how ppl kept bashing the ps2/xbox/GC against with a superior $1500 machine. It's sad really, really sad.

its gonna be the same agian. xbox 360 and ps3 will, for a short time, have the best power/price ratio. but you cant really upgrade a console...

doubt it, the 360 wont be any better than computers out now with fx57/4800x2, sli configured 7800 gtxs, 2 or more GB of ram and all the other hardcore gaming hardware thats available. Not to mention you cant f**king upgrade a console. The moment they offer ram/processor/harddrive/video upgrades for consoles will be the moment they take over. From what i have been hearing, the ps3 will be an entire entertainment center, including internet blu ray and other sweet features and it isnt that expensive(you cant buy a damn computer with all those features for double the price it will be)

Eh, I thought the graphics on the 360/ps3 is pretty much the same as on today's high-end PCs.

You don't need to; a top-end console costs less than a top-end graphics card. :)

lol, it'd be pointless to make consoles that have the ability to show that kind of detail anyway, since 99% of console players do their playing on a regular TV, only capable of displaying low resolutions and in a blurry way at that.
