tell 'em:

Mera lundh chota hai. pronounced: MARE (Like 'hair') A (like ahhhh i'm falling) LUND (like 'lung', but with a d instead of g) CHO (like the chinese last name) TA (like 'pa' (dad)) HE (like 'hehehe', only once though)

so, MAR - A - LUND - CHO - TA - HE

Write it down and tell them this next time.

In Hindi it means:

You don't know sh*t!

That will really surprise the guys! 🙂

"I wonder if it's an intentional tactic to prevent return calls to their helpdesk"

The majority of DELL's tech support is now overseas. Mainly India. This saves Dell a lot of money. Teaches a lot of Indians to speak proper english to boot! At your expense. If anyone tells me one more time that Dell has good support I'm going to choke and puke. I suspect Gateway etc. are doing the same thing.

LOL! Should I let them in on the secret??? Hehe.

My cousin (in India) does helpdesk support for some software that the US Gov't uses. It sucks cause he has to work the entire night (since its daytime in the US).

EDIT: read the whole thread..turns out they already translated it...which ruins the fun!

You should say "tum machod hai"...with a hick accent..that would be funny!

It is - 70 days old. They owe me a $100 rebate too; think the store can help me with that? 🙂

Um, they should have sent that to your house. Make sure and bring it up when you have it checked out 😛 Ask to speak to the manager - they can usually get it worked out 😛

Yeah...those numbers look bad. Also you need to look at what processes are running under your OS. Do a CTRL ALT and DELETE and go to Task manager and then to processes and see if anything is sucking the CPU cycles just to make sure before you drop it off at Gateway. If you find something taking up say more than 5% constantly besides System Idle with nothing else running then ...who knows. Maybe a virus slipped on there or some stupid bonzi buddy is hozin' your system. Let us know what the process is if there is one that is taking up CPU time.

Edit: oh yeah, did you close SETI before you did the benchmarks?

Ok, just wanted to make sure. You're on TeAm AnandTech, right? 😉

yup, as every good citizen should be 🙂. 6 machines running full time (mostly)

Very nice! I'm down to my C433 and P133 because my poor P4 2.0 is stuck turned off at college. 🙁

OK, just thought I'd update this thread with the end of the story (for now). The quick-and-dirty version is i'm never buying a Gateway laptop again. the service people i talked to were just as helpful as their job made them be... no more, and left me in the lurch several times. there are definitely some good guys working for the company, but it doesn't seem like very many anymore.

mebbe I should rename this thread to "whining about tech support, and other children's tales."

Oy

oh, and chadder - no other processes using CPU time.

You want some fun, check out the link in my sig. It explains some of why Gateway Tech Support has gone downhill.
