on my way to school, there was a construction.
heavy traffic.
I had to drive up hill , walking speed, for almost an hour.

On my way up i smelled something like urin, or something burnning.
I didn't know it was me untill i got to school and I poped my hood I it was comming from me.
I couldn't tell where but I think the smell was coming from where all those black belts are( i don't know cars).
Is this normal from that kind of driving?

oh my car is 5spd manual

I don't think it's coolant, i just had my radiator replaced .
First I though it smelled like break burnning.
but it's not , like i said it's comming from engin area.
It's more like rubber burnning smell.

Thing is this never happened before.
Also I've never been in that kind of traffic jam either so...

How much of this time did you spend with your foot on the clutch? It could very well be the smell from burning clutch.

yes for almost an hour, constently stop and go.
pressing clutch almost every 5-10 sec
If it is clutch, should I be worried?
thanks man!

Do you have a manual (5-speed) transmission? It sounds like you don't know how to drive a stick. A burnt clutch is a bad thing. How old is the car...or I should say how old is the clutch? If it starts slipping when starting from a dead stop, drive it straight to the nearest tranny shop for a new clutch. Once it starts slipping when starting from a stop, it could go at anytime. Sometimes the pressure plate will crack (that is a very, very bad thing) Ever hear of a "Scatter Shield" on drag/race cars? Ever hear of a fragmentation grenade? Sounds like a burnt clutch. good luck, slippyfoot.

Uh... what exactly do you mean by "slipping"? Any tell-tale signs of this?

ok so i've been dring 5spd for about 4 months now.
I had no problem ever, till today.
If it's infact clutch burnning, it never happened before till today.
I admit i was ridding my clutch a bit becaues of the traffic.
I'll stop by my friend's shop and have him look at it.

thanks alot people.

Your clutch slips...uhhhhh...it doesn't "grab" as well, doesn't seem like it's fully engaged...

A worn-out clutch is pretty easy to diagnose. Any mechanic worth his salt can tell instantly if it's fried or not. Luckily for you, all older 5-speed Hondas have a cable-actuated clutch (mechanical as opposed to hydraulic) and it can be adjusted to compensate for wear...but only if it has any "play" left. If it's never been adjusted before, or if the clutch is (was? :D) new, then you're GTG. Good luck, Mister Slippyfoot.

Hmmm... so, like, if I were disengaging the clutch and the engine kind of jerks... or like, I have to be more deliberate when disengaging the clutch to avoid said jerk? Or am I describing a different problem entirely?

(This happens when I shift from 1st to 2nd, but nowhere else.)

Maybe I'm just disengaging the clutch too fast?

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread! ;)

Don't use the clutch just to move a half car length. I wait for at least two car lengths if I can. Sometimes I don't have luxury when road is full of jerks that will pull in front of you if create a 4 inch gap. Always keep your clutch foot on the floorboard. Never rest your foot on the clutch pedal. Never idle with the clutch depressed.

<< your granny shifting, not double clutching when you should >>

You shouldn't ever have to double clutch, that's why cars have sychros

Uh Oh.... One morning my friend's dad was heading to work when a smell started to eminate from the vehicle's vents. He stopped the car and went outside to check the engine area and guess what he found? It turns out that a stray cat at gotten in the engine area for some warmth the night before and had gotten stuck. When my friend's dad found it, it was toast. Literally.

Ouch:confused:

**Sings**
Felix the cat, the wonderful toasty cat
He burned so much, his eyes popped out of his fuzzy head...
We're talkin' Felix, the toasty cat

Everybody now!
**Crowd Sings**
Felix the cat, the toasty-crispy cat
His tail got caught, in the belts and he went round and round
We're talkin' Felix, the toasty cat

Ok, I'll stop now.

Yes indeed, double clutching would be quite an advantage in uphill stop and go walking speed traffic.
