funny shutdowns

:QMy computer that I built not long ago needs to be shutdown twice in XP before it goes off, otherwise it reboots instead of shut down. From time to time when I turn on my desklap it turns on the computer too! I suspect it's because they are both pluged into the same surge protector, but that shouldn't happen... I wonder if the two problems are related. Finally, my RAM died...not long ago

I wonder if anyone know about anything like this... maybe i need to throw my video card, Power supply and everything else alway.

Have you replaced your power strip? Sounds like it has an improper ground, and it is affecting your computer as well as the lamp. You can check this with a multimeter, by checking resistance to ground from another sockets ground to the casing of your power strip (if it is metal). And I would definitely replace it nonetheless considering your situation.
Tas.

The reboot twice may be a result of your computer crashing as it's trying to shut down, thus triggering the restart on BSOD.
