so I moved to the country and had to go back to dial-up after years of cable modems. We signed up with Highstream as a service provider, and pay the extra $1/mo more for "High Speed Dial-up", which as I understand it compresses the data at their server prior to cramming it down the phone line connection to my PC.
It actually works pretty slick for web surfing (downloads suck, though). The one thing it does do is compress/distort things like gif and jpegs. As a result, this emoticon (
) looks like it has a black eye.
