Funny article on MSN about "Malternative" drinks (Smirnoff Ice, etc.)

I am a beer drinker, but at school I always made sure I had a few Smirnoff Ice in my fridge. They are great for getting drunk. They'll hit you hard and fast...and the best part is you can get really wasted without being sick on these things.

Casual drinking = beer
Wanna have a crazy night with your friends = smirnoff ice and some beer

Also remember Smirnoff is 7% alc. in Canada...not 4 or 5% like it is in the US

I hate beer, but I enjoy drinking....Skyy Blue is definitely the best out of what I've had, although I still haven't had the Citrona yet. Blue just masks the alcohol so well, and stands to be a pretty decent drink on it's own. I mean, if you WANT to get drunk, just take a few shots on the side, but as for a drink that you can actually take more than one "drink" from, I think Blue's just about the best so far.

Haven't drank in so long. Wonder if I'll be weak when school starts again. nah. 😉

I have a video of me chugging two of the 7% smirnoffs back to back in lke 30 seconds when i was drunk. it's disgusting i tell you. just rude. i will never share it with you folks. think me and my friends must have at least 4 hours of hilarious drunken footage from last year! fun to watch

BAH! Single and double shots are easy. It's when you get into 3-5 oz shots that stuff gets fun 😀
although i'm not really sure if they are considered shots anymore 😉

oh yeah, i forgot about the long islands. those are awful, but you can get fscked off your arse for cheap. say... $10 and you're gone.

I did quite a bit of indulging this weekend at the DMB shows, and some of the girls there have smirnoff and skyy blue, and i tried both. personally i like harder stuff, but they werent too bad of drinks. skyy blue is literally bottled candy, and smirnoff is sprite.
 
interesting🙂 i finally understand why that captain morgan stuff is marketed so stereotypically manly. 🙂 they try so hard its sick...hahaha suckers😛

i do however like the skyy blue commercials.

Yeccch. I've never had a single "malternative" that I actually liked. The underlying malt flavor just doesn't work with the citrus IMO. I'll take a beer any day over one of those things. Now, if we're talking "obtain buzz quickly with minimum pain and suffering" then a couple stiff rum & tonics (mixed with good Barbados rum of course) will do the trick quite nicely thank you. 😀

The alcohol content is the same, it's just that in Canada it's measured differently(by weight vs. by volume).

Smirnoff's US website says 5% alc. by volume. The commercials in Canada say 7% alcohol by volume.
Also got this from their site which is interesting. It doesn't even have vodka in the US:

NO. SMIRNOFF ICE? was created as a beer alternative; brewing it using a malt base enabled us to create a recipe that could be sold and consumed just like a beer here in the United States.

BUT. SMIRNOFF ICE? does contain Vodka in many foreign countries including Canada, Brazil, England, Ireland and South Africa.

those things are too sweet for me... sure they taste good at first, but i had 6 of em one night cuz thats all that was available, and i puked my brains out... mind you, i can drink a 12 pack of labatts down no problem and not puke all night...
