I used to laugh at stuff like this because I must've had a bajillion sources I could ask for help from... parents...tutor if I needed it...good school etc.

And I realize now those are probably kids who grew up poor and don't have much of a support system. Thats the only way you'd end up calling 911 for math homework help.

my nieces started doing stuff i used to do in grade 1 when they started pre-k. the older one is going into grade 8 later this year, but is learning stuff i learned in first year of high school. younger niece is going through that too. i guess elementary is accelerated now?

Exactly. My kids go three days a week to an international school for pre school and they are learning Latin and and math as well as getting music and Italian and Spanish from me and they are four

I know I did not have any one to turn to when I needed help with any school work. Never did call the cops though.

We learned simple math in kindergarten (4-5 year olds). That was the point - to get you exposed to it so you at least had a clue when you got to first grade.
If you were NOT learning math immediately in school it's because you rode the short bus.
