Here in the Netherlands, we have a comic strip called Dirk Jan. Who always gets in silly situations with his friend Bert. Amazingly funny.

I translated this one for all trekkies !

Wait, you have something other than porn? :p

If I had a bucket list yours is a country I would want to visit. Since Americans seem to be generally disliked how would someone like me be received?

Americans arent generally disliked overseas. People who travel and expect the country to conform to their lifestyles are generally disliked. The french and italians will most likely tell you.
I dont have a problem traveling but I can speak 6 languages so people always assume im from someplace else.

That's good to know if I ever travel abroad. It's been a long time indeed since I've been out country and I recall one couple of my acquaintance who spent a lot of time in Canada who wore a maple leaf pin when traveling to Scotland during the worst of the Bush/Iraq years. People assumed they were Canadian and many went on rants about Americans. It's been a decade since then, but we pretty much didn't get along with Europe after Rumsfeld pissed on them. Unfortunately we're so insular that many believe other nations are really little Americans in waiting. In any case, it's impressive you know so many languages. They were never my best subject by any means.

Does that mean I can wear a cool helmet with horns?
Yes and go by Ragnar.

When I was stationed in Germany, if you were around a military bases, you could catch grief. Get away from the bases and they seemed to like you.

It could be funny road marching somewhere. Locals would line the streets to watch you pass. Kids and older adults would wave their hand or flags. 20-30 somethings would wave their middle finger.

I went to Kitzbühel Austria once to go skiing. I was talking to the old couple who ran the bed and breakfast we were going to stay at. I was speaking in German. She said a word that I didn't recognize (frühstück) and in English I asked my friend if he knew what it meant. She got all excited because we were Americans. The Americans had saved her and her family from the Germans. We had to force our money on them. They wanted to comp us. It didn't look like they could afford it.

When I visited several places in Europe years ago, the rudest people I ran into were French. All other countries were pretty cool with our group being there.

I had no idea Americans are disliked in the Netherlands. I think it is quite the opposite. If only all Americans would speak dutch... :p

Like I said it's been a looonnnngggg time since I've traveled and those I know who went to europe weren't warmly welcome (I had no knowledge about Netherlands) after Rumsfeld decided to insult anyone who didn't sign up without question for the war in Iraq. That's when some places banned "French fries".

Frankly I was ashamed by our ignorance and wouldn't blame anyone for resenting us.

Don't let Scotland taint your view on the rest of the world. They hate everyone, most of them hate half of their own countrymen.
