Yeah, but it also needs premium. The TSX is nice and all, but I just don't see its premium being justified over an Accord.

I understand the concern, but the extra cost of Premium gasoline isn't that great in most cases. Let's assume you drive 15,000 miles a year, and that the TSX averages 25mpg. So, in one year, you will use 600 gallons of fuel. Premium gasonline is approximately $0.292 higher than regular unleaded, nationwide. This means, that after one year of driving, you would spend an extra $175.20 on gasoline. Of course, this is all relative. However, I assume that if you can afford to spend $30k on a car, the additional cost of gasoline wouldn't be that much of a burden, especially when you consider that you will be spending $1924.20 on regular unleaded fuel alone.

The Mazda6 has been mentioned -- a good option. If your main objection to the Prius is that it's small, you should check it out again. The interior is very much on par with the Camry (the old Camry, at least), with significant leg room in the back.

Mazda6i!
Its cheap at base (16K OTD for me) and pretty fun to drive if you get a manual. Its not as preppy as the 3 with the 2.3L because its a little heavier but you get a lot more room.

My experience has been that that assumption doesn't work out too well ;)

Jetta TDI! although it is pretty slow... They get around ~45 mpg.

I don't think you can get a new diesel in CA.

Didn't realize he was in CA... too bad.

Yeah. Diesel really is the sensible alternative to hybrid.

All the high MPG and low-end torque. None of the hype-induced inflated pricing

I think it's more an emotional thing than anything else. It's very easy to feel the daily sting of gas prices, not so easy to feel depreciation, interest, and so forth.

Here's some food for thought: Edmunds.com estimates that averaged across the first five years, it will cost just under $10k a year to own the TSX.

So premium gas makes a TSX cost 2% more a year than another car. If you get 2% more utility out of it, then go for it...
