Fun little update on my previous employer

SunnyD

Belgian Waffler
A little recap in case people need a refresher.

Anyway, we're settling in nicely, I love my new job, and Alabama "ain't nearly as bad as ya'll think". At least there's good chicken tenders everywhere here.

Now to the meat 'n 'taters part... got internet hooked up at my house yesterday, my phone has been through Skype (SkypeIn/Out) so I've been out of touch. Funny thing is, most everybody at my previous employer was on Skype too. Imagine my surprise when I plug in my phone, log in and not 30 seconds later it rings. Was a previous co-worker.

Here's the scoop:

- A couple weeks ago they let two others go.
- Last week, they dumped both my previous manager and the HR/Finance guy to "part time without benefits".
- This year's Christmas party is said to be "heading to the bar for drinks on Wednesday".
- They have no clue/plan on what they're doing for software development, probably end up outsourcing it (haha, outsources forensic software, that'll hold up well in court!).
- They were supposed to withhold part of my last two paychecks to pay back the portion of relocation expenses I "defaulted" on by leaving early. Needless to say, the corporate office phone number is now on my GrandCentral "Blocked" list.
- And finally, NYS Unemployment did approve my claim, hence I was terminated. Unfortunately their employment agreement doesn't make any sort of distinction between voluntary and involuntary terminations, so I'll end up have to pay back the relocation expenses I owe.... eventually.... I think.

Cliffs:
You ever get that feeling like you actually did something right for a change? 🙂

You sound snug. you should be!

Fly back, rent a Ferrari and take you former boss out to lunch!

Congrats! My previous employer is in the process of biting it right now which should make referencing far simpler.

I wish I had the balls to tell my boss to suck it...probably won't reflect too positively before I found something new though. But then everyone knows how the story goes, if you give a mouse a cookie...

Crickets on Wall-Triana. Best wings I've had since I've been here.

Beauregard's (Hwy 72 before all the car dealers or Jordan Lane just north of 565) is 100x better than Crickets.

OP: If you like good beer, you pretty much can't get anything besides Sam Adams and Yuengling in AL - in case you haven't found that out yet 😛. If you need to know anything about the area, just ask.

Not much of a beer drinker honestly. To be honest, me and good margaritas get along famously... a little too well to be honest. I know I know, man card... now. 😱

I've only had a burger at Beauregards and it was decent. I've heard that Crickets had better wings, and we usually eat there at least once a week, so I was hesitant about getting wings at Beauregards.

As to the beer, The Nook is the best I've found without driving to Tennessee. I still have to make the trip occassionally though. 😛

I see nothing wrong with a tasty margarita 😉 And no, I am not turning in my man card 😛

I would not worry too much about paying back the moving cost they gave you. This is why they should have had a decent HR person. When they told you to leave, and also it seems was backed up by the unemployment office, they pretty much fired you. Usually courts will not make an employee pay back any bonus/moving money/etc... when that happens. Even for the Fed Gov (DoS) we only make people pay back moving cost if they quit on their own. If they are fired they usually are ok.

Oh wow, look at all the Madison/Huntsville folks here ... we should to an ATOT night sometime 🙂

Good luck with that 🙁

What, nobody wants to go get some food that's bad for us and talk about all the other ATOT people behind their backs? 🙂
