5. Kennesaw, Georgia
This is the town that started it all. Every time someone tries to pass a law requiring gun ownership, they always cite Kennesaw, which enacted a law in 1982 requiring "every head of household to maintain a firearm together with ammunition." Today the city of nearly 30,000 people proudly boasts about the law on its website:
After passage of the law, the burglary rate in Kennesaw declined and even today, the City has the lowest crime rate in Cobb County. [Kennesaw-ga.gov]
The law was initially passed in response to Morton Grove, Illinois, becoming the first city to ban handguns. Kennesaw police Lieutenant Craig Graydon told Bloomberg that despite the oft-repeated claim that the city hasn't had a homicide in 30 years, it actually has had nine, which is comparable to nearby communities.

Homicide is not the same as crime rate.

Also, you suck Morton Grove, Illinois. You should feel ashamed of yourself for passing that law. Also Washington, DC, NYC, SF, and others cities that pass laws banning hand guns, suck on it.

This points to an obvious truth. It's not the guns that are the problem at all. It's who has them. The demographic of gun violence is quite well known and predictable. If a 50 year old with no criminal history with a family and a job wants to get a machine gun, why not? Who cares? I bet if you went into a ghetto slum and commanded every house hold to have a gun you'd have a massive spike in gun violence.

I live in NY and even if I wanted to experience shooting a gun I would be racially profiled and probably put on a no-fly list. Bunch of cocksuckers think just because a person knows how to do something than its some sort of addiction.

It's actually very similar to the conservative approach of not teaching sexual education. Knowing how to properly use a condom somehow makes people turn into sex monkeys.

Society is fucked. People on both sides agree that education is bad. Learning how to safely handle a gun? Bad. Learning how to use condoms? Bad. Learning anything about chemistry? Bad (chemistry sets are illegal in many states).

Keenesaw does have the lowest crime rate amongst its neighbors, but it does have one murder every other year. I would say thats pretty safe.

A more interesting note is Morton Grove, Ill which has 0 murders in 12 years. In 1981 they enacted a handgun ban and in 2008 they repealed the handgun ban. Murders did not increase at all, still 0. A decrease in robberies may have occurred; however it is hard to tell from the data, as this is likely from an improving economy and not necessarily from the gun ban repeal.

The most likely reason for the safety of Morton Grove isn't a handgun ban or a repeal. It is because it has a higher median income than average:

Wealth, how homogenous the people living within a specific microcosm, and things to do for youth.

If people are happy, can generally provide for themselves beyond the means of survival are the bare minimum, tend to get along with most of whom they live with, and have plenty to do to prevent idle hands.... violent crime will be non existent.
