Well, it's got onboard LAN and killer onboard sound. That's two PCI slots out of the way. So it's like having a motherboard with 5 PCI slots...just that two of them are already taken up 😀 Let's also not forget that you don't need to add in a USB 2.0 or Firewire PCI card 🙂
 
Very nice. I only wish there were chipsets supporting serial ATA. Even with rounded cables, existing ATA cables take up a hella' lot a room in a case with multiple CD/HD drives. Gotta love this ever evolving technology...😎

Hum, wasn't it just a couple months ago that you were complaining that the mATX version of the nForce 420-D was too expensive ($140 then, now it's $123) and that it lacked enough PCI slots (it only had 3), yet it came with onboard LAN, video, NIC, and "killer" nForce sound. 😉

Yeah, but that Micro-ATX board didn't have QUAD onboard RAID, 6 USB 1.1 ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports, 3 Firewire, and 4 DIMM slots supporting DDR333.

That nForce board was for system builders...this board is for enthusiasts. Any other questions? 😀

I say Abit have pushed it abit too far...
While I use USB for all my stuff now.....
skipping the floppy Disk and PS/2 Ports was kinda a bad idea.......you will find out why when you need them.


When the ASUS A7V333 offers similar feature set....ok..
One Less DIMM , One less Fire Wire port, 2 less IDE RAID ports
More USB 2.0 ... with all the legacy stuff.....


To me it feels like a badly designed board.......

I use ALL USB and no PS/2, serial, parallel, or floppy drive. This board has everything I want, and no fluff. I like it😀
 
Now that is the schweetest board I have seen in awhile! 😀 I can't wait to see some reviews on it. Hopefully it has a decent VCore/VDIMM ceiling. 😉

Geez, quite a contrast here. I use almost NO USB, use PS/2 mouse and keyboard, parallel scanner, 2xfloppy drives, and I use the serial port to update my router's firmware.
Only USB device I even own is a cheapo digital camera.😉

Onboard sound has NO SPDIF IN (frowns)

No floppy! Big minus there! I hope the onboard lan supports booting!

The HPT374 controller is interesting. A four disk RAID 0 array should finally post worthwhile gains providing the VIA pci timings don't get in the way! 32bit PCI surely will, however.

Personally, a real enthusiast's board would have six+ pc slots, (with at least half of them 64 bit--NO STINKING IRQ SHARING!) NO I/O built in whatsoever, and support for 4GB of registered ECC memory with 8 sockets. Dual chipset support also a plus.

What's so special about the on-board sound? Does anyone know what sound chip is used?

Onboard 10/100/1000 lan, or else a dedicated slot for an included combination
lan/V.92 modem card, located furthest from the AGP slot.

PS2 & floppy controller: yes
AGP 8X
extra space adjacent AGP slot for video cooling

i sure as hell dont want legacy free. I use my ps2s, parallel, serial all on a daily basis.

Those stupid mothers needs to ADD usb2 and firewire, not shaft us by taking away all the good stuff. Idiots.

Just another reason why ABit wil never get a dime from me
 
The only problem I forsee is the lack of floppy connector. I have not installed a floppy in my last half-dozen PC's but the connector is always there and I can install one quickly to flash the motherboard bios. I put a soyo P4S Dragon Ultra in my last two machines and the sound is easily comparable to an audigy.

I flash my BIOS from CD. I have a "utilities" CD that I burn all of my BIOSes onto.
