i have samsung ssd evo 860 500gb it hangs my pc at startup i need to RMA it but i want to format it so that no data can be recovered also how do i format it while pc is running windows as we can not format c: drive

You can also use a separate boot disk. I use one of my Acronis install disks, boot into the CD, then operate the drive cleaner utility from the disk. There is probably other freeware out there that you can do that with, but you will have to create some sort of CD or USB drive to boot into.

Have you tried Samsung Magician's Secure Erase? The software creates a bootable USB drive to enable erasure of what would be the C: drive in Windows. Of course, this is dependent on Secure Erase recognizing the dying drive.

You can also create a linux usb drive and boot from that. Run the dd command from the terminal and write random numbers to the drive of your choice. I use gparted to check that I have the correct disk ID first. Just google "linux dd to wipe disk" or something like that to get the command.
