Full Test: 2004 Scion (Toyota) xB

"If it's too boxy, you're too old"

LOL.....or you've got better taste!

Both those Scion cars are hideous. Is this really what today's younger buyer wants? 😕

I suspect it's not too far behind

Now the more I look at it, throw some 17" wheels/tires on the xB and it wouldn't look bad at all. Maybe the 17's from the Matrix.

You guys are silly.....

It doesen't look any worse than anything else on the road today. What about those old Dodge, Chevy, GMC vans? They're fugly. I would rather drive an Element.

As for the Aztec, I have no comment... :Q Can't compare it to these "van-like" vehicles you people are constantly beating on.

I think that the xB looks pretty sweet in this pic at the top of this page with the 17" alloys:

The Element's design is not bad at all. The thing that brings it down is the IMMENSE amount of plastic cladding which makes it look uglier than sh!t. Make it all body color, then give me a call 😀

Supra 😛
Tundra

Land Cruiser
RX330
IS300
Celica GTS

The rest are rather bland to me...but that's the whole point.

You forgot about the Supra ... that was a nice looking toyota ... anyways ... This thing is sweet !!
They should get a bigger engine ... but for the price, wow!
The Element is really nice too. I don't like the Xa much tho.

Looks similar but slightly uglier than an Element.

But the looks of the Element have started to grow on me.
Maybe because I see them quite often now.

Interior looks nice.
Dunno how functional it is though, with the gauges being where they are.
Is that only speedo I see? Where's his friend tach, fuel, temp and oil pressure?

Just finished reading the rest of the article.
Engine is much too lethargic.
But the low price and good mileage may attract buyers.

Why the spin off the Scion brand name?
Why not just stick with Toyota, a recognized and respected name?

0-60 in 9 seconds and 30-34MPG is just about right to me. You really don't need that much power for something that weighs less than 2,500 lbs. It's a city runabout, not a Focus SVT or Neon SRT.

As for your last comment about the Scion name, look at Lexus.

i know its small but it looks enough like a gm small van that i can't get a correct notion of the size in my head...

anyway, i bet the low-riders snap these things up in a hurry

and the RX is by no means "nice looking"

The thing has about as much power as my '95 Sentra (a tad less) and trust me, it's barely enough to merge onto the highway.
With the A/C on, you can forget about it. I usually turn the A/C off for a few seconds when I know I'm going to need to extra power to merge.

Lexus was created because they needed a more upscale division... cars in the $30k+ range
Scion is in the $15k range, same as Toyota. In fact, the Echo starts at ~$10k. Don't really see a need for another division.
Sorta like GM and Saturn... didn't see a need for that as well.

I agree 100%. I'm pretty much right in the heart of their "target demographic" and I would never consider buying something as revolting as the xB.

Toyota has designed a number of cars recently that I don't really care for, but these Scion cars are just awful.
It doesen't look any worse than anything else on the road today.
Yeah, it looks just as good as a Jaguar XK8 coupe.
