Full Test: 2003 BMW Z4

Ups: Exotic car driving dynamics, fast and easy top operation, attractive interior design.

Downs: Harsh ride, lots of wind and road noise ? even for a convertible, exterior design is controversial at best ? just plain ugly at worst.

I'm gonna go with JUST PLAIN UGLY!

(1) You're one of the only people that finds the Cayenne attractive. It looks like a Hyundai Sante Fe with body-colored bumpers/molding and a Porsche badge on the hood.
(2) The 745 is downright ugly. The front with the "eyebrow" over the headlamps, the thick-looking mid-section (between the A and B pillars), and the hideous rear-end
(3) The Z4 is just stupid ugly. Too many surfaces clashing all over the place.

yes, that car is an eye sore and nothing more... i would NEVER own one of those. not what BMW wants to hear... I'll take my M5 and nothing else from BMW.

Hehe, I'd rather have an M-Roadster over the Z4. Now THAT is a classic design.

Yeah that car looks badass for sure... I like the 5.0L V8 in the M5 though.... four hundred horses...

Personally I don't like the new z4 or the z3 for that matter. However, the M class BMW's are sweet. I wouldn't mind having one of those.

LOL, that's like taking a picture of a girls tits and asking what's not to like...in other words, you pretty much showed the only "saveable" portion of the Z4's design. Even with that said, it looks like a catfish up front. The headlights are splayed out very wide and the grill is too wide. But it's still passable

Just plane ugly. Looks like Bangle decided to take the rear end of an S2000/RSX combined with a Ferrari 575M and somehow make it UGLIER!

I don't really love the exterior styling on any of those three cars either. I think they're all nice vehicles, but they all have strange proportions or styling details that I don't like.

The Z4 does get away with it a little more because it's a small sportscar, which are more apt to have "avant-garde" styling. It's a great car, but the "flame surfacing" just doesn't do it for me.

Like a week or two ago I saw a Z4 for real, for the first time.

Many people say it looks better in real life than in pictures, and indeed, the front did look better.
But to compensate the ass was even uglier than in the pics, it truely looks like a complete POS.

saw one the other day, they dont look THAT bad, nothing i would brag about, but another thing is that these things areent even fast, edmunds stated the 0-60 is only like 6.7 seconds or something, civic si's can do it in 7 seconds, is it just me or werent these supposed to be pretty quick?

1) There are different engines available, the 2.5L only has 184 hp.
2) Read the following (from the link provided above):

...At our test facility, with DSC in its more "relaxed" mode, we made our quickest slalom run in four years of testing, scoring an average speed of 67.1 mph. For the record, the previous slalom champ was a 2003 SL500. Even our recent American Exotics Comparison Test, which included a 2003 Viper, Corvette Z06 and Mustang SVT Cobra, never generated this strong of a number.

The Z4 is not intended to be a drag racer. Equipped with the 3.0L 6, though, it should be even faster (at least in 0-60).

It looks great except for that flame bullsh!t and the awkwardly tilted headlights. Leave it to Bangle to ruin potential for beauty. How can any designer be so stupid?

I have to say that the rear end is the most beautiful of any car I've seen.

I have to say I loove those cars too, and anyone who doesn't think so is wrong

Though I'd have to say the few people I've encountered who think the Z4 looks nice also are girls.
