Full home audio solution

Hey there audiophiles,

I'm looking to deck out my house with a halfway decent sound system with a set of speakers in each room (bedroom, kitchen, dining room, lounge etc) but controlled from a central unit. So if I'm listening to something in the lounge and then decide to head to the bedroom I can just redirect the output. To prevent trailing wires everywhere, I'd prefer a wireless connection (2.4/5ghz?) between the different rooms. Icing on the cake would be smartphone control for the entire setup, but realise all together it's a lot to ask!

Any suggestions for how I could make this work? I've seen the Bose Lifestyle system with Bose Link, but be great to see if there's anything better (technologically, quality or value-wise) out there.

Many thanks!

i've only seen one of these wireless devices (sonos) and the delay between the different listening positions was enough to make me never want to go wireless for stuff like this. and these devices were right next to eachother. one inside, the other was right out the door outside. it was kind of annoying to come inside for some food then walk outside and hear both sounds at once out of sync.

Thanks purbeast! Hadn't seen that one before, looks like exactly what I was thinking of 🙂 Do you know if the latency issue is specific to the Sonos, or is that a generic problem due to wireless?

not sure at all. it is really the only exposure i've had to it before and it was just at a friends house a couple of times.

I love my Sonos system. We have 4 zones ( bedroom, office, bathroom and Kitchen) and the ability to play the same of diffrent music or podcasts from any smartphone is great.
We have never had issues with out of sync music, so i cant speak to them.

I don't think I've ever seen anybody post they were disappointed with the decision to pull wire, rather it's for networking, audio, video, telephone, etc. A wired connection is a better idea and worth the minor inconvenience.
