Dedpuhl: I am waiting for the day that the world attacks the U.S. I am sure a lot of countries are tired of the United States trying to police the world...

Sephiroth_IX: Police the world? Yeah, I'm sure that everyone hates that we help keep world peace to the best of our abilities...

The general opinion in the us about what they are doing for world peace is overrated. If you know something about how politics and economics then you would know that creating an enemy brings people together and makes them forget their own problems. How I see it the US government is just distracting the public by fighting wars against "the evil communists" and "the evil terrorists" all over the world.

You just wouldnt belive what people realy think of the US in europe, acting as big brother doesnt make you popular everywhere.

Aside from that, China would not gain anything from attacking the US. In wars everyone looses.

I haven't traveled much, but from what I hear from my friends overseas is that much/most of the world doesn't like us very much. I mean, how would you like it if your big bad neighbor came into your house and settled all your disputes for you? He knows nothing about your background, culture, history etc..... Yet he wants to come in and settle things his way, which is obviously going to be the most advantageous for him.

I say we invade Antartica and pulverize those irreverent bastards! From there we can easily attack and defeat the Tazmanians and use their rotary expertise in designing future Rx-7's!

". China is perfecting its FM wave radar detection system that utilizes minor changes in TV broadcast waves when a stealth plane flies by. This would render every US stealth aircraft useless"

That's no big deal Pennstate, Australia's 2 OTH (Over The Horixon) radar instalations ( Jindalee & WARF) have both been reported to have detected stealth aircraft, via embarrasing leaks (aparently a Telstra employee was transferred across to the Alice Springs project, but they forgot to get him to sign the Official Secrets Act, & he ended up leaking reports out about the detection of Stealth Aircraft & the govt wasn't able to do anything about it as the OSA isnt a retrospective contract:)).

Anyway China's just about the most corrupt country in the world & just about all its bureaucrats & leaders are in the pockets of the huge Taiwanese conglomerates that are opening factories across China (just about every product that's labeled 'made in Taiwan' is either assembled in China using Taiwanese parts, or its the other way arround). Consequently China's leaders are not going to war over Taiwan, as they'l end up out of pocket.

All the posturing that China does over Taiwan & the Sprattleys, is just that, its sabra rattling. For domestic consumption only. It's this face saving thing Asians are obsessed about. So the leaders rattle their sabres to show the public that the're doing their job, while their Swiss bank accounts get filled will Taiwanese dosh.

<<war is not good for the people, but it is good for the economy and the government itself.>>

Actually, that is a very common misconception. We (Americans) look at WWII and say "Hey, that got us out of the Depression, war must be good for the economy." The only problem is, in that war we were supplying goods, but taking none of the costs. We weren't getting blitzkrieged back to the Stone Age. If you look at the European countries after WWII, I believe most of them were in economic ruin.

Just so everyone knows, when I say "taking none of the costs" I mean structural. I in no way mean to forget all the soldiers who fought and died (or lived) fighting WWII.

War is good for the economy because then govts have an excuse to make massive infrastucture & capital investments.

For some strange reason govts feel inhibited from making similar investments in infrastructure & capital during peace time. But if they did the dividend would be even greater & there wouldn't be the wastages & capital/infrastructure losses that occure in war.
