sure, there's tension everywhere. there'd been tension between us and ussr for > 50 years and no wars between the two broke out.

Yes but the Japanese had a decent blue water navy. Still it was an attack and not an assault. Even then the Japanese did not have enough littoral forces to launch an appeciable assult after the early days. The Battle of Guadalcanal proved they did not have the forced needed to move a substantial ammount of men and materiel and launch an assault. Any landing they attemped with any sort of organized resistance failed misserably (Midway, first Battle of Wake Island). China is less prepraped to land a force on Taiwan let alone undetetcted across the Pacific Ocean with US carrier battlegroups shaddowing their moves.

There are also billions and Billions dollars-worth of trades; and more coming here than going in. Why the hell would they want to do something this stupid at a time when unemplyment is rising in China? Why would they do something this stupid at all? They may not have a democracy, but they are not fscking stupid. But the single most deterrant is that they both have enough nukes and H-bombs to vaporize earth. Now you people understand why the balance is so crucial.

They still don't build their own carriers yet. They are trying to replicate the ones the Russia sold them. Technology-wise they are still many years behind. However if hypothetically the US was to invade the mailand, it would not be easy. China is perfecting its FM wave radar detection system that utilizes minor changes in TV broadcast waves when a stealth plane flies by. This would render every US stealth aircraft useless. The bottom line is, it won't be a lopsided victory for either side.

China versus Taiwan is an internal affair. It's their own civil war. The US has no real right to interfere other than the fact that we want a military base right off the coast of mainland china to contain them.

Actually some guy wrote a thesis saying that, for world war II, in the long run countries who lost wars actually had better economys, something to do with them being forced to have small armies so they could use govt spending on more effecient things.

You also forgot why Germany fought WWII. Their economy was in ruins after the first one. That was why Hitler got elected. Do a little more research next time.
