ok MILC is retarded and frankly 'camera' works perfectly well.

The X-Pro1 is the start of an all-new camera system, with a brand new mount and lenses. It's unashamedly targeted at a high-end audience, with analogue control dials and a small set of compact, large-aperture primes to be available at launch.

the hot:
  • 16.3 MP APS-C sensor using a unique CFA (not bayer)
  • awesome hybrid electronic OVF
  • prime lenses
  • control control control (aperture and focus rings where they should be, though they're electronic)

the not so hot
  • just 3 lenses atm with yet another all new lens mount
  • a bit large (similar in size to a leica)
  • probably will cost a bit more than your first born (cheaper than a leica though)

I guess proprietary lenses is their way of making more money?

I'd like to see what the sensor pattern actually looks like.

This thing is beautiful, but that pricing is scary. If $1,699 were the kit price, or better yet if the kit price were close to the price of the X100, this would be a huge hit. On the other hand, they will probably sell all they can make for the first year anyway, so maybe they're just pricing it to its market . . .

Price listed at Exapansys is apparently ~$1390. Yes that's $300 less but to me, still very expensive.

"Fujifilm is claiming it will out-resolve the full frame 21MP Canon EOS 5D Mark II."

:O

I hope they've addressed some of the complaints of the X100.

We'll see once it gets into actual hands.

I wasn't that interested in it, but if that sensor is as good as it appears - and I doubt it right now - I might give what is a relatively cheap rangefinder with presumably decent automation to boot another chance, though I still think it's too large (which is why I ended up disposing of the M).

Too rich for my blood, but I'm hoping now that the X100's supply caught up with demand it will drop to $1000 (the original announced price). There is actually an authorized dealer who's selling the X100 now for that price, but I'm hoping to get it from Amazon and use up my credit.

All in all it is not clear to me if this is more or less expensive than the Nex 7 (which is around $2200 with the zeiss 24f1.8).
-
However there are a lot of other issues; such as how easy it is to use the body (the nex 7 has a very nice evf - esp for manual focusing); i have no clue how this viewfinder (combo evf/ovf) will compare to the nex 7
-
then there is the new k01 which can be used with pentax pricey but decent limited lenses.
-
There is the new om-d (announced next week around feb 7) which is likely micro 4/3 with the gx1 16 mp sensor and built in evf - probably the same as the one they currently sell which is ok - maybe comparable to the gh2 but not as nice as the nex 7/5n.
-
My comments ignore full lens set (micro 4/3 has some very nice lenses) and overall image quality (nex 5n and pentax are the major competitors).
-
The initial sample images are nice (esp with regards to noise behavior) but resolution (esp edge resolution) seems questionable. I think the fuji sensor is suppose to have very good dynamic range.
-
The om-d/gx1 sensor is not bad by the way and olympus has the best out of camera jpeg quality (for those who wish to reduce post processing effort).
-
The leaked fuji road map (lenses for 2012/2013) is very interesting.
-
While the price of the body is all over the map (5n is aroudn $550 without evf or 900 with evf); nex 7 without lens is 1300, om-d is rumored to be around $1100, k 01 is around $800 and the fuji pro is $1600; notce that the lenses for fuji pro are actually quite decent relative the competititon (if they have prem. performance - something that is still an open question). Fuji has a long history of producing very good lenses for their range finders so if these lenses are top performers the system might actually be a bargin with regards to total price.
(the zeiss 24f1.8 is ok but certainly not zeiss best offering is priced around $1000); i"m not sure how much the leica 25f1.4 is for micro 4/3; the zuiko 24f2 is quite expensive; but the 45f1.8 is less so.
-
Anyways I'm interested in seeing how it performs - as I am shopping for a new system but clearly i'm not sold on the current sample images floating around the inet.
