Amazon just lowered their price to $213.94, with free shipping. Use a $5 coupon to save more.

Fuji FinePix 2600 at Amazon

Edit: Scroll down the Amazon product page to see an offer for free and discounted SimpleTech Memory when purchasing this camera (thanks, bit!). This is apparently not stackable with a $5 coupons.
Don't add the free memory using the link that Amazon provides or you will end up with Compact Flash, which will not fit in this camera. Find the SimpleTech SmartMedia Card manually to add to your cart (thanks, bigsmooth!).

what's the quality on the camera?

I'm in the market to buy one...but I'm looking for a pretty decent one. If I am gonna buy a digi cam...I want to get one that is worth the investment

i personally own this camera.

Good

1 - Good quality pics from a 2.1 MP camera.
2 - Versatile for different lightings environment
3 - Video capable

Bad
1 - No sound in video
2 - Video can only be 20 seconds long

If you are trying to get the SmartMedia card, watch out: the link on the camera's buying page takes you to a Compact Flash card which will not work with this camera. Try finding the SimpleTech SmartMedia card manually and adding it to your cart.

unfortunately it appears to me that the free 32MB coupon is not stackable w/ the $5 off coupon.

you can also take $20 discount on 64MB or 128MB memory card instead of the free 32MB.

Why, why, why didn't you post it yesterday? 🙁 I rushed to cancel my order at buy.com but it's already too late. 🙁 Looked at their price match statement it says price match does not apply if you used a coupon. :|

Anyone know if I can just ask the UPS guy to return the package when it comes? That way maybe I don't have to pay for extra return shipping? 🙁

This is a good price for an excellent entry level digicam.

Staples had this for $279 last month I was able to buy it for $206 after $50 off $200 coupon and 10% customer appreciation coupon but returned it because I'm an idiot and buy stuff at random just because it's a good deal.

How does this camera compare to the Canon A40 which I bought from Dell for 250 but it has yet to ship. THis one is definintely a better deal cuz its cheaper and comes w/ rechargeable batteries and a charger but is the canon a40 significantly better?

I've read about 5-6 reviews on each digicam and came to my personal conclusion that the Canon A40 is slightly better esp since it takes CF media instead of the Fuji's SM and other factors.

Here's where you can find reviews, I suggest reading them ALL for both digicams.
imaging-resource.com
dcresource.com
dpreview.com
steves-digicams.com
epinions.com
amazon.com (find the product then scroll to the bottom for the customer reviews)

Why is CF media better? After reading those reviews, the main question is am I willing to spend another 35 dollars to get much better night shots and give up the free rechargeables and charger. . .

i did the same thing...although i have yet to hear back from them whether my cancellation request went thru. my order showed "sent to warehouse" status when i put in the cancellation request. one thing is for sure...buy.com is really slow in responding. it takes them 12 hrs to respond to an email?! wtf is that?!? i might as well send them snail mail! :disgust:

oh well...if buy.com doesnt cancel...i will have to try and cancel amazon. if not...then i'll have 2 of the same digital camera. 😛 and here i was 3 days ago not wanting to spend $222 on a single one!

theloneraven,

my understanding is that as long as you don't open the package, ups will return it to the sender without additional shipping being charged. i've done this in the past and not had any problems doing so. the catch is that you can't open the package.

Why is CF media better?
Because it just is. Actually, here are some facts:

-> CF cards are more durable.
-> CF cards, theoretically, should be able to grow to higher densities for storage.
-> Smartmedia cards have a limit to the level of size they can be expanded to.
-> Another technology, which is smaller than a smartmedia card, has been developed and should start somewhere in the 256 MB range and go up to 1 GB or more in storage capacity.

With that being said, Smartmedia is far from being dead. Products using the new memory technology haven't been released yet. Maybe, this new type of memory card could also displace CF cards since it is quite compact (about 1/2 the size of the current smartmedia cards). However, for those buying a camera with smartmedia storage, I'm sure there'll be SM cards on the shelves, along with card readers, for quite some time into the future. So many cameras, MP3 players, etc. were sold with smart media storage that the plug can't just be pulled on production overnight.

does fedex do the same? i think buy.com shipped my order via fedex

Thanks! I ordered. I've been looking for a reasonably priced and somewhat good camera for a while 🙂 I found this review to be the most helpful. Also I was considering getting the 64mb sm card (for $20 after $20 discount) but decided to get the free 32mb one because the 64mb cards can be had at newegg for $29 shipped (search for "kingston media 64").

you might not want to do that if they charge restocking fees. also ... pricematch with staples and use $40 off 200 coupon. with california tax and free shipping, my total came to $188

i'm not sure if the shipping policy also extends to fedex. however, you're absolutely right you have to be careful about restocking fees (if applicable). i didn't have restocking fees with the experiences i had, so it was a good option for me.

can anyone tell me where i can find a 40 off 200 coupon? i see posts for 10 and 30 but not 40. thanks!
