I picked up two spindles. One each of +R and -R. Both spindles clearly indicate "Made in Japan". They had plenty left where I got them.

Both +R and -R were on sale.

Has anyone had any problems with these discs? I ask because I picked up a stack of DVD-Rs and my Philips burner in my brand new Dell doesn't recognize a single disc in the stack. The drive is a Philips DVD+-RW Dual Layer burner, so I wouldn't think it would have a prblem with this media. Any thoughts? Could there be a problem with the driver of the burner where it won't recognize DVD-Rs?

Does it have the most recent firmware update?

They are not fake

Just because a DVD has a specific media code DOES NOT mean it is made by that company. Taiyo Yuden are well known for their quality, so some companies will use the TY media code on their own discs to make people think they are "real" TY discs.

Look at this thread about a list of known "fake" TY media. You can see that a lot of companies are faking TY media.

Everyone cries wolf on TY "fakes" and always refer to the cdfreaks threads.
All those "fake" TY codes are under non Fuji brand names.

I'll tell you again - NO FUJIFILM 8X DVD-R or DVD+R BLANKS BOUGHT FROM BEST BUY (USA) ARE FAKES

Do not try to spread FUD.

I just used a 50 pack of Taiwanese -R Fuji with my DVR-108 and not a single coaster (although I do prefer the Japanese).

@Bozo Galora

Maybe I wasn't clear in my post, but I was responding to the post by Jombo about some non-Fuji DVD's that are made in Taiwan, but with TY codes. I wasn't implying that the Fuji DVD's were fake, so calm down. :)

I picked up 3 spindles of the -R yesterday from the BB in Columbia, SC. All where Made in Japan with TY code rated for 8x on the label.

There where probably 12+ more spindles on the shelf when I left, all made in Japan.

I never have seen a Made in Japan -R box. I did managed to pick up a 4th (I picked up some on previous sales) box of +R to burn a GC left over from Christmas though. I think I'm set for a while. I actually had to give away the last of my 4x Ritek disks.

Don't buy the Taiwan discs. Lots of people say "didn't burn a single coaster." Same here. But those successful burns rapidly deteriorated. Two DVDs I made can no longer be played without numerous glitches in any of my DVD players (Samsung, Apex, and my Lite-on drives in my PC).

They worked fine at first, but they are almost worthless now. The other 8 from that 10-pack were used to store data. Those still appear to be readable, but I can hear the drive struggling to re-read sectors. Buy the Japanese ones.

Personally, I just buy Prodisc now. From what I can tell, Pioneer's certification isn't just hype. The discs work and they stay working. They read well in everything, including my X-Box. And perhaps best of all, they are dirt cheap, often about $30/100. I would grab Fuji TYs, but other than that, it's Prodisc for me.

same here, bought those cheap dvdr's that wre on sale on black friday...

i only used like 4 of them. the problem is, they burn fine. but if you play them back, there's errors and what not. and problems with dvd player reading them. done on nec drive.

worth it to pay a few penny more. esp if you want something that lasts.

The irony - the "Made in Taiwan" Fuji -R discs, are Prodiscs!
A little contradictory there, if you are talking about Fuji-branded DVD media.

They have a 100 pack this week for 39.99 so it still works out to 20.00 for 50.00 but you have to buy 100. No Japan 100 packs at my BB:(
