According to our sources, which we simply cannot name due to obvious reasons, AMD plans to launch the upcoming Hawaii graphics card with a price that will be below US $600.
Unfortunately, the precise price is still not carved in stone but the general idea is to launch it at below US $600 so current best guess is that AMD might go for either US $599, $549 or even something in between. This price will put the new Hawaii based graphics card well below the Nvidia GTX 780 which is currently selling for around US $649 and higher.

This is also in line with AMD's recent move to cut the price of the HD 7990 Malta graphics cards down to US $699. While the upcoming Hawaii GPU based graphics card will be faster than the HD 7970 we doubt that it will get close to the HD 7990, at least not in games where HD 7990 actually works well in Crossfire.
Of course, bear in mind that AMD can change the price on the last day but we guess that we'll know for sure on 25th of September when AMD plans to officially unveil the new Hawaii GPU to the press in Hawaii.
We will, of course, keep our ear close to the ground as more rumors will surelly appear as we draw closer to the official date of the unveil.

That might not be a good thing, if AMD Hawaii could out perform the GTX780 they would charge more.

no not necessarily. this is just refresh and the 780 is pretty overpriced so it would be ludicrous to charge more than $650 if its just barely faster.

Am I the only one who thinks this new card/chip won't be outright faster than the gtx780? I think it will win in some benchmarks, but overall will be an "even match" not which is bad, but since pretty much everyone here agrees the gtx780 is overpriced, it's just not that exciting. It's not new performance, and it isn't OMG substantially cheaper. GTX780 came out in May and to get that kind of performance in very late September / Early October for $50-100 cheaper just isn't really that exciting IMO.

-AMD might be trying to do to Nvidia what was done to them with the 680 Launch...

The thing with that though is that AMD didn't respond to Nvidia, whereas in the past when the tables were turned Nvidia responded with price cuts in a timely manner. Nvidia didn't really do anything with the gtx680 except probably raise their MSRP prior to launching it.

It's not like that would make these cards great price/perf, but at least we can hope for some price-sparring between them (I doubt a war at the top end).

titan 2 with 2880 sp and gtx785 with 2496 sp will come next so they can still have a $1000 and $650 gpus. lol

Considering the price/performance ratio of AMD's current single GPU cards, Hawaii better be wicked fast for anything close to $600.

mmmm then the card will probably go down to 499.
which is even more win.

ATI has me camping on their side this gen... i cant seem to stomache the price tag of 2 titans with waterblocks.

No its not exciting if its just a simple 28nm refresh, 20-30% here and there is meh considering much cheaper 7970s can do massive OCs and for so long already.

Its only exciting under 2 scenario: 20nm, or 28nm but massive die.

Well, we will just have to wait for reviews, as always. Especially regarding OCs, which seems to be a major strong point of AMD cards recently. Hopefully that doesn't change.

I'm not so sure how much that helped sales overall. When you look at reviews of nVidia cards, for example, what you see are AMD cards on the charts performing well below their optimum. The 760 beating the 7950, for instance.

Agreeing with you though hopefully AMD will not lock down voltages and still allow for the TDP to be boosted enough to allow for the full potential of the cards to be realized. This allows for enthusiasts to get the most bang/$ possible.

Considering that the 4870 was 50-100% faster than the 3870 across the board, that strikes me as extremely unlikely, especially if it is at 28nm.

Yes, "acceptable" was being a bit facetious. It, of course would be terrific. If it's on 28nm (which I believe it will be but have been told differently) it'll blow me away.

My 0.02 dollars.

3800 -> 4800

And the hype machine starts. :)

That'd be great, but part of the reason the 4870 looked so good was because the 3870 was so average. If they could pull that kind of jump over the very decent performing 7970 that'd be quite the accomplishment. Especially if they stick with 28nm (likely??).

^Agreed. Maybe this time they'll factory OC the bejeezus out of the chips to help them get worthwhile performance jumps over the 7970 (on 28nm)?
