I'm looking for some info or a link on how to setup an FTP server.
and also if i will need any other hardware,or software then what i allready have to get it going.

i'm running Win98SE on my server machine, and win95 on my other 2 client machines.
a 4-Port Hub,and RR cable connection.

all 3 are networked and able to browse the net with 1 IP,and share files with one another.
but wanting to know if i need anything else other then what i have to get the FTP server setup to where people can download, and upload from my machines.

A link on FTP setup for dummy's or something should work..hehe.

Thanks for any help.

Serv-U is an excellent program and really easy to setup. They have read me text where it'll get you up and running in no time. If you still need help there's plenty people around that can help with that. PM me if you need the software.

You may also try G6 FTP Server for your particular setup, I don't believe Serv-U allows sharing a folder across network machines, but G6 does. Both are great, however.

Thanks for the help guys.
it so happened i ran across that G6 software after posting the message and it was working in like 5 mins.

i didn't know it was that easy to set a FTP server up.never tried before. :)
thought it was more then software.

If you all know of any security issues i should know about while running my FTP server i would appreciate any help on it.

not sure how easy it is for someone to screw my system up by being on an FTP.

Thanks again for the help.

I don't think running the FTP will add any more security problems than anyone already has :) Saw this site in another post -- kind of interesting about port sniffers and NetBIOS attacks: http://www.grc.com

Anyway, just be wary of your user permissions.. give the write access and you could have some accidents :)

DEFINATLY check your anonymous rights and privlidges.. do not allow the anonymous or default any access that would allow him to roam around or delete anything on your system.

Simple way to make your FTP a little more secure is to switch the port to something only you and your friends would know. This helps hide your FTP server from the public and hackers eyes..
