Hi Everyone,

A friend talked me into buying a FTP Server program, saying that with it we can transfer files to each other.
Well, I got and installed it. Now what, how do we use it?
Does the other person need the same program or can he use any other program, like ws-ftp or whatever to access me? Also, to access his files, does he need to have the FTP server program like I am using?

Thanks to anyone to can enlighten us about this.

You have the server. Any FTP client should then be able to connect to the server. The server will have to be setup to grant access to specified directories. Password protection is dependent on the server app.

The other person could use a client to access your server. With a client they can access your files, and upload to your server. If they had a server you could access there's and upload to them with a client. I got a server simply for the ease of people being able to connect and download without me having to send them stuff on request.

Thanks, all for your help and time.

I finally got the server to work and I accessed it using Netscape. I'm so proud! I just type in FTP://27.0.0.1 and it showed my directory.

Thanks, again, for your help.

I found that out by trying it at work.
I tried the other one, which I believe is correct: 65.32.233.52 although I got a message from IE that I didn't have read writes or something like that. I set the 'privaleges' as 'read' which I thought would be sufficient, but I guess you need 'write' also; why I don't understand.

Thanks for your help.

HI All,

I have another question, if you don't mind.

When I use a browser to access my server, such FTP://65.32. etc,
is there a way to specify a USER Name? I tried all kinds of combinations, but nothing works.

Thanks,

Len

Hi,

Thanks! That is what I needed, although the only part I could get to work
is: FTP://login@62....
Then, I get the password question, which is good enough.

But, some of friends who I asked to check the page says they just get a blank screen and some get the message about check your browser settings.
Even, myself at work, can't connect, saying that don't have rights although I changed everyone to read/write/list.

Maybe, some day I'll get it all straightened out.

If anyone wants to check the site themselves, please try:
FTP://65.32.233.52 and see what happens, although I'm usually only on in the evenings.

I have the exact same thing happening to my ftp. Im basically trying to setup a ftp server to check my firewall. I think your having the same issues. exact same error and everything.

What is your network setup like? What routers, modems and such.

Hi,

I'm using Road Runner and Zonealarm. So, for those that I want to allow in, I need to 'tell' Zonealarm their URL. Then it lets them in. It is working ok.

Hope yours is also.
