FTP server help using a Zyxel/Netgear 314 router

Can anyone help me out here?

My FTP server works, as in people outside my home network can connect via the internet when I am not using my router, but once I am on the router (behind the firewall), it doesn't work...

I have forwarded port 21 to my internal IP addy, but that doesn't seem to do the trick....anyone?

Thanks..

I have the same router, and all I have to do is forward port 21 to the proper IP like you said you've done. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Hopefully someone else here can help you. Try looking at Broadband Reports.

Forwarding 20 is not absolutely necessary, but it may help for some cases. I have a server behind a rt-314 without 20 being forwarded and haven't seen any problems.

What you probably have is that you haven't disabled the default filter blocking all the good ports. I'm away from my net right now so I can't check, but look in the filters for one called something like WEB_FTP_TELNET or something. Go in and disable that. I believe that ports 21, 23 and 80 and maybe one other one are blocked by default. Everything should come on in after that.

Fubar is absolutely correct. You need to change your filters to allow incoming packets forwarded to the appropriate SUA server. You don't need to forward port 20.

For more information on how to do this, visit Netgear.org.
