does anybody know how to set up an ftp server?
i have a linksys router and 5 port hub. ive tried to set up an ftp server and i think one of the problems is that the ftp server is trying to use the ip address that the router assigned to the port on the hub that iam pluged into. how do i find out what my ip address from my internet provider? (i am on Road Runner)also does anybody have any sugestions on a certain ftp program to use? i ve tried G6 server and Warftp v1.7. i think another problem is that i am having a dificult time properly configuring the programs.
Thanks

I'm having same problem. i have a post somewhere that has some answers. my router broke so i didn't get a chance to try it yet because i had to send it back to DLink
search for my name under 'search' and look for my ftp post
some of those ideas were pretty good

that doesn't make too much sense dude
only OS's like linux and BSD come w/ servers
microsoft doesn't want people to run servers!!

right now im using Win98se on this computer. i got the port forwarding all figured out that is no longer an issue. the NEW problem i am having is configuring warftp. i thought i had it but when i tried testing the usernames and passwords all i could get to was the initial folder with my bin, usr, pub, and upload folders but i couldnt go any farther. you wouldnt happen to know how to configure war ftp server or recomend maybe a more user friendy ftp server program?

im switched over to G6 now. i thought i had it figured out. i tested it and it worked adn when i gave my friend his user name and password he couldnt get on. so i tried using his name and password and i cant get on either. i am on a home network and i have port forwarding enabled on my router. im going thru the online manual to see if there is somethign i m missing but its looking like i could use some help

Thanks

If you use win2k run IIS, its easy and pretty secure. Then just tell your router to forward whatever port you want to run it on to the PC thats running it. Pretty simple.

just looked at crazychicken's Post, are you nuts???? win2k(any version, but pro has a 10 client limit) and NT 4 both come with FTP software, have you not herd of IIS??????

im not running my ftp server on my computer that is running win2k pro. not yet at least. i eventually want to set that computer up to be my ftp server. and it wont be behind a router either. i am however running it on my win 98se computer from behind the router and it s working but im not running my server right now because i have a memory problem im still trying to work out.
