If you MUST order online, I've had excellent luck with Proflowers.

this, and they actually have customer service. Got my gf flowers last year when i was away, and when they arrived half alive, she called to complained and they sent her a new batch the next day.

Order an arrangement from a local flower shop in advance.

Take a long lunch (dress well!)

You pick up and then deliver the Flowers to your Spouse at work.

I use a local florist that I've used for years. They don't advertise, it's all word-of-mouth, but they do the best work I've seen.

Although, the last two years, I've done Edible Arrangements, and my wife really likes that. They're pretty and we get to have shenanigans with chocolate covered fruit.

edible arrangements is so goddamn expensive

I've never understood why anyone uses groupon. Huge scam, imo, and a place for disreputable businesses to pander their wares to idiots.

lol, got $35 bucks worth of food for $2 last week thanks to groupon.

Agreed. I've used them on a b-day before and proflowers was great. I've also used them on mother's day before, and when I was told they looked great except for half the flowers were dead... I called and they remedied it the next day. They didn't just get new flowers, they doubled the entire order including vase and everything. I'm happy enough with how they handle things, and even if you get a bad batch they're more than willing to work with you.

FTD is just the middleman. They contract with the local flower shops to provide what they advertise. You should complain to the flowershop that sent the bouqet.

I do agree, however, that the flower industry is a complete scam.

I didn't get my wife flowers or candy or even a card yesterday (all part of the holiday scam). Instead, I got her some single serve coffee for her Tassimo. She couldn't have been happier.

You do realize that FTD does not design the flowers your wife received right? FTD is just a wire service. You place your order with them, they wire the order to a local florist. You would be better off finding a local florist (google, phonebook, etc...) and ordering from them direct then you would be to place an order through a wire service like FTD. FTD takes a huge commission of that $100. The flower shop probably gets about $70 of that (if they're lucky). Then there is usually a delivery fee attached to that somewhere (about $5-$10). Then of course the florist has to make a profit, and the vendors the local florist uses increases the prices of flowers significantly during the week of Valentine's day. The vendor my dad uses charges a $1 premium per rose (plus the normal cost) during the week. You aren't going to get a $100 arrangement from a floral shop when you use a service like FTD.

Even if you live in Cincinnati, Ohio and you want to send flowers to your mom in Cleveland, it's going to be much cheaper looking on google for a florist in Cleveland and calling them yourself then it would be to use a wire service.

Yes I do, and I'm used to using Proflowers.com, where I've gotten extras from the florist for using them in the past. When I used them, I got fantastic flowers that were a notch above what normally gets send out.

I thought FTD would be similar, and I was wrong. There's something that women love about flowers being delivered (my wife was ecstatic even though they sucked), so I like to make her day a few times a year like this. Live and learn I guess.

Yeah, and these $10 for $20 Barnes and Noble, Bath and Body Works, and 50% local eateries are complete scams.

Groupon used to be decent. Problem is many businesses are avoiding things like this because the customer thinks a free meal = no tip.

It's been customary up until the emo generation to tip based on the pre-discounted price of a meal.

I hope you at least took your hand out to a nice dinner before taking it to town.

Wow, even more predictable than my reply. Congrats.

Wife and I went to a new Greek place in town. Had a great dinner for probably half of what some of you people paid for plants that will be dead tomorrow. In fact, we had a dessert that neither of us had heard of. After we told the waitress how good it was, the owner came out and gave my wife the recipe! :)

Be careful... remember what happened last time we tried to defend/explain Groupon to these idiots?

most of of the restaurants that use groupon.com also use restaurant.com. restaurant.com also has regular deals off their normal discount price, and restaurants available through them are always available through them, as opposed to there only being a window of opportunity like at groupon.

so i prefer restaurant.com for food. groupon does have coupons for other things though...

Agree completely there. I use groupon for bakeries and services and so on.

I use FTD with no issues. As already mentioned, FTD orders are handled by local florists. It saves me a trip to the Florist to pick-out something and the day before delivery, I'll contact the florist to confirm address/time of delivery of my order.

OP - the real issue is the local florist that handled your order as the flowers that were sent to your wife should have been what FTD listed. You could contact GroupOn, FTD and the local florist about your disappointment.

"First, take all the cheesecake and humus that didn't sell last week and mix it together. Then, chop up all those goat testicles that we keep ordering but nobody buys..."

predictable and lame... most likely, but predictable and EXPECTED is the key

doesn't matter how lame they may be, most girls enjoy them even if they try and claim they're "not that kind of girl"

This.. it's about the woman.. NOT YOU.
And women dig it even ones that say they don't love being spoiled on V-day..
however.. that does not mean you don't do other days as well.

and yes grocery store florists are great. I always get my stuff from there.

Well, I got a nice resolution:

We try to offer the best deals possible, while also making sure all of the details are up front and easy to understand. The deal's original terms were that the Groupon could not be used on items already on sale. At no time was there a better savings on FTD.com than on the FTD/Groupon site. We understand that is confusing and upsetting to a number of people--especially since you expect a great deal from us every time.

To make this right, we've worked with FTD to make sure that your Groupon can now be used on any item at the sale price. If you already purchased items that were also on sale, FTD will issue you a refund on the credit card you used with the difference that you should have saved. Please allow 5-7 business days for this to show on your statement.

We're really sorry for how confusing this deal has been. This resolution should now ensure that you get the maximum value for your FTD Groupon, even if you've already redeemed. We hope this resolution is to your satisfaction.

Please let me know if I can help you further.

Regards,

Sharris W.

Ah, the internet. The only place you can be told that flowers are predictable and lame for Valentine's day, and further, that you are a sucker for ordering on a commercial holiday. Every internet user could get suddenly get $5,000,000 cash tax free for no reason, and inevitably, a 70 page bitch fest about how more free money should have been given out will arise.

<-------------- Florist business owner for 11 years. You're MUCH better off calling a local florist directly to avoid the 'middleman fees' that FTD,Teleflora, and others charge. Calling a florist directly makes sure you know what you're getting, what they have in stock, and prices. When people come in to 'wire out' flowers to another city/state, we'll look up shops in that area and give them the numbers to call. A lot of folks tend to call 1-800-FLOWERS, go to FTD or Teleflora for convenience. It's just not worth it. You end up spending more money and getting less product.

Help local businesses out by calling a local florist and not some faceless call center in another state (or worse, another country).

What do you mean... "you people"?

No flowers here. Just a couple lobster tails in the steamer and a toddler short on patience who thankfully fell asleep around 8pm.

I've always done that (hey, if you're in Shallotte I might have ordered from you before) and I never really understood why people use the FTD or similar route. I want to talk to a person who is at the shop that is going to do the work, and if there's a problem I want to be able to call that person to resolve it. It just seems intuitive that going through a middleman is only going to make it cost more. And I didn't think it was more convenient either - what's the difference if I look up a local florist or if I look up FTD's number? It's the same amount of work.

I understand why people did it 30 years ago (pre-internet and pre-cheap long distance) but not today.
