file for complain all the way up to the supervisor of the rep, a drive so close to the cutoff time should usually be ok. the amount of time you spent bitching with the CS is more expensive than RMAing your drive. That's what the businesses usually do.

Don't giveup, or if you're sick and tired, buy a Maxtor, they always have good warranty service and turn around. Their reliability is getting better than before now, and some models have 5 yr warranty too, worth considering.

Well, to solve the bickering, do you have proof of the date of purchase? If so, fax/send it to em and they'll honor it.

If you don't, then thats their policy. Maybe a manager or csr will let you slide, but how the hell is seagate supposed to know when you bought it? Its not like every time you buy something, the little scanner at the register throws information out to the manufacturer and the government like in Conspiracy Theory.

I know, but I tried saying if it shipped May 18th, isnt it reasonable to assume I bought it after it reached the store in June ?

but apparently not... no proof of purchase, im allready looking up prices on new drives.. Anyone see a better deal than 120gb 8mb $77 shipped? :p

Holy Sh*t. Stay clear of the Maxtor. I bought a 200 Gig Maxtor last year for an fantastic price after rebates. Damn thing failed just after 12 months. I didn't have the box anymore, but I figured it surely was still under warranty. I contacted Maxtor for a warranty claim and they told me it was no longer under warranty-it only had 12 months. I asked how could they only have 12 months when damn near every other HD manufacturer had 2-5 years. I told the rep that I thought it was pretty clever of Maxtor to manufacture a HD to self destruct shortly after their warranty period expires and he even replied that he could not confirm or deny that Maxtor practices this. That was enough to convince me to never buy Maxtor again. I have three Seagate drives (120, 160, 160) and they are rock solid!

and apparently I just talked to them, the warranty ran out may 18th, meaning it had a may 18th ship date. The lady was very nice, but said her computer would not physically allow her to do a RMA, as its officially out of warranty.

I paid for Best Buy with cash, as my debit card was empty then

No, it didnt have a 3 year warranty, it had a one year warranty.
Where does it say Seagate had a 3 year for Internal IDE drives?
I bought my current Seagate in March of 2004. I just looked up the serial and part number and it said my warranty expires March of 2007.

This just doesn't make any sense.

For one, the OP has no argument for the 5-year warranty, anyway. What makes you think it started in June? It clearly says in the warranty FAQ it began July 24th.

Second, I don't understand why you or they think your drive only has a one-year warranty. Again, I bought a 120 GB IDE ST3120026A three months BEFORE you, and my drive has a three-year warranty.

Your drive is covered dude. Someone is giving you some serious horsesh!t. Take out the drive, get the part and serial numbers, look it up on their site. I guarantee you it's covered.
